Lowering triple clamp for endos?

Been doin endos for a year or so. I think I'm doin everything right (quick snap up, good speed, arms straight & lookin' far ahead), but I cant seem to get decent distance - stuck somewhere in the vicinity of 30 feet or so. Tried changing my style here and there and I don't seem to be getting anywhere...

I think I'm still shaving off too much speed as I'm bringing her up. So my question is: Would lowering the triple clamp so that the forks stick out over the triple clamp by a couple of centimeters make it easier to bring the bike up to balance point in an endo?

Anyone have any other tips on getting distance on a heavy ol' 919 with the stock 16" front rim?

I don't know bout raising or lowering your clamps, but if you havn't already, i would suggest setting your compression and damping settings quite firm because that might make more of a difference to your distance than changing your triple clamp set-up.

Just my 2cents though!

If you just use hard braking to bring it up you loose lot of speed to the raise. By using body movement against the tank with less brake to bring it up is faster way and you don't slow down so much.

try to get maximum distange from very low starting speed, this is safer and teaches you how to get it up fast and with little speed loss. you should get reasonable roll from 60km/h, difference between 60 to 70 is amazing in lengt, when you first get decend roll from 60km/h. (Used km, because that is what you probably use too in Australia?)

Re: Lowering triple clamp for endos?

I'm running about 18-23psi on the front.

Tried increasing the compression and damping, but it made it harder to bring up...

Thanks for the tips guys... Might try getting used to firmer settings and work on distance at lower speeds for now

Re: Lowering triple clamp for endos?

I would not lower the triples it may do what you want however this will decrease your trail makeing a front end that is more likely to headshake during stoppies. I would recomend turning your clip ons out that helps.

One thing that helped me when I was learning was to mark a spot on the road where I wanted to bring my stopies up at. This would help me with taking the speed off before I brought up my stoppies. Panit a line, do a burnout, set up a pop bottle just mark a spot and bring it up by that spot then start bumpen up the speed 5 mph. pretty soon. http://www.scootertrashst.com/video_...hunderbird.wmv

Re: Lowering triple clamp for endos?

I agree with schwartz. Don't change the tripples. I get really good distance and I hardly ever start them over 60 mph actually I useually do em around 40 but my technique is a bit different. ONLY TRY THIS IF NORMAL STOPPIES ARE TOTALLY NATURAL. when you get on the brakes, as soon as the front end collapses and you start hard breaking try throwing your weight forward but not recklessly just get your butt off the seat a couple inches. It's kinda like a little body hop. Just like doing a wheelie, and you kinda throw your weight back just a bit (when clutching not bouncing) like that but forward.

Sorry it's really hard to explain. Your feet shouldn't leave the pegs but you should take a bit of weight off em. and crotch against the tank. It works well for one handers too.

I'll try to think of a better way to explain this and post back later today,

Re: Lowering triple clamp for endos?

Schwartz, thanks for the tips - nice to see someone of your calibre posting up to help a rider out so lowering the triple clamps is out of the question, but I'll definitely try pushing the clipons out a bit...

Nice vid by the way.

Thanks for the tip - I get what you're trying to say. In fact, thats what I already do.

Fact is, I've got all kinds of stoppies on lock, even highchair one-handers (see pic below), but I'm pretty much stuck when it comes to getting more distance... Seems like I gotta stop focusing on speed and focus more on technique at slower speeds...

Thanks again everyone! :YEAH
