The phone book method is just laying the book on the tank, center over where you want the dent...and you go to town. You have to move it around a little and beat other areas if you want a super clean dent.

 

to ppl who have bondo'd their tank after denting does it hold up good? I figured it would crack all the time from being on the tank and flexing

 

used a rubber mallet, then bondo, and some rubber spray liner on top and as a tank pad... nothin scratches it off plus gas doesnt *** it up...

 

bondo holds up great, no problems with it at all

 

nice job on that tank where did you start off denting the tank? we tried my buddy's f4i tank and it creased a few times and then cracked. we opened the gas cap and saw a metal 'bar' going staight back right along the crease Do you start banging there and work around?

 

i started denting mine on the left and ride sides of the gas cap, then dented in the front... after the cap was leanin forward i started workin on the back until it got how it is... i had like 1 small crease but that was because the bike was laid down and had a dent on the side

seemed to work well, only took like 30 minutes of poundin

maybe i got lucky because i hear a lot of horror stories with these tanks
