HELP - How to talk to the judge?

Hei guys, I have to go to court this tuesday june 21st for doing "a wheelie on my rear and front wheels" on a public street a.k.a. 'reckless driving.'. How should I talk to the judge to get my ticket lowered. So far is $712 dollars. So far I'm thinking: I've never had any traffic violations. I am originally from Chile and is not illegal to do wheelies there. I'm trying to start a stunt team. Anything else, including bs, that could work? Thanks.

P.D.: I know I was being stupid being in a public street, I usually don't do that.

Most of the time that "I'm foreign" shitt don't work. U can try it but i doubt it. What ever u do say, don't say anything about a Stunt Team!!!
Get a Lawyer and try talking to the D.A., those are the ones u need to Brown-Nose.

The ticket so far is $712, would get a lawyer be any cheaper? What else do I risk? (such as my motorcycle taken away)

Re: HELP - How to talk to the judge?

cheaper???? that isn't gonna matter if you don't have a liscense!!! I got a C&I and exhibition excelleration for riding a standup down the highway. without a lawyer I WILL lose my liscense and could see a little jail time here. SO getting a lawyer is essential!!! Good luck how ever you go. But if you go to the judge and say its not illegal in my home country and I've never had a traffic violation before, he's gonna think you are some immigrant dilequent who hadn't been caught yet!

Even with a lawyer it prolly won't cost much more, as the lawyer usually has the violation dropped to a non-moving violation, costing around $100-250, the resy goes to the lawyer. Also look at your insurance rates, with a reckless endangerment on your record, your insurance will become crazy high, on your bike and car.

Get a lawyer.....I wouldn't tell you that if I wasn't going to get one myself!!

Re: HELP - How to talk to the judge?

Yea...exactly!
I can pretty much assure u that the Lawyer will get u to pay prolly half that cost. Get most of the tickets reduced or some of them dismissed. The price of the Lawyer should only be about $200-$300. After he gets some of the tickets reduced or dismissed, u'll see only paying about $200-$300 in fines. So, your total cost with the Lawyer will still come out to about $600-$700 but like Eazenut33 said, there will prolly be "No Jail Time, No Probation, and No Jacked-Up Insurance"!

Re: HELP - How to talk to the judge?

Just be respectful in court, get a lawyer, and if asked about it say something very close to "I'm sorry and wasn't thinking about the possibility of hurting anybody, I realize that there is a time and place to ride like that, and will only do those things at the shows when I'm allowed to." Something like that will show that you are sorry for being "reckless" and that you realize that you could have done damage to someone else or their property and you know that you should only do stunts in an approved area. Let your lawyer do the talking though for the most part.

Yeah, defintaley get a lawyer, but don't worry about the fines, you can go on a payment plan for anything over $100...it sucks, but its not like your gonna have to dish it out all at once...

definetly get the lawyer, it'll actually be cheaper after all is said and done. You'll save on fines and you'll probably only get supervision so your insurance wont go up.

I don't know about that I don't look hispanic at all she'll think I'm messing w/her. Anyways, so I've been working this whole weekend and I didn't get a lawyer. As much as it sucks I wanna ask 1000RR_Jon what he did to get it lowered. I'm thinking if I plead no contest how can I get an excuse for doing a wheelie in a public road with medium traffic around.

good luck if you go that route, but most judges will hammer you without a lawyer unless you personally know them. Keep in mind judges are traffic lawyers in other cities/counties too and they are out to keep their profession healthy, so you paying a lawyer and having the lawyer in thier courtroom makes them happier since you are keeping their job secure!

Go ahead and bite the bullet, get a lawyer that appears in that courthouse often, you'll get a better price if the lawyer is local and you'll get the same or better result!

Re: HELP - How to talk to the judge?

I am scheduled to come back to court on July 19th. Now, I understand better what you guys are saying about getting a lawyer. I will try to find a really cheap one around the area and I also applied to a court appointed lawyer but I probably won't get it. I'm also going to talk to the deputy about lowering the ticket and if that doesn't work out I'm going to try explaining the judge that 'I raised my front wheel for two seconds about 2 ft. and my back wheel 5 inches for about a second due to peer pressure to college friends, when there was no traffic, and with the intention to no endanger myself or others.' Thanks for the help from most of you and I'll appreciate any other input.
