stoppie problems...
stoppie problems...
ive been doin stoppies for a while now and been rollin em for over two months. i usually come in at a 50-55mph approach. lately when i start gettin em to the "sweet" spot it starts shakin bad. last night i almost lost a rollin one at about 50. i went out today and did some and they are startin to happen every time i do em. it just started to happen to. whats wrong? is it my tire pressure? i put some air in the front but that was like two days ago and its been happin for about two weeks. what could it be? only answer this if you know what your talkin about. thnx!

Re: stoppie problems...
since you were rolling them fine for awhile and then this started happening i would check the tightness of the big *** nut on the top of your tripple and or the neck bearings. **** just doesnt start happening for no reason.
Re: stoppie problems...
get a damper. the higher you get em the easier it will slap. the damper will take away the shake and you will be able to concentrate on everything else. if you're just learning distance, try 18psi.
Re: stoppie problems...
I would either get another damper or put stiffer oil in your stock damper for one... What tire are you using? Is your front wheel balanced? And when you started getting headshake, was it the same surface you were rolling them on before? Could be any one of these factors
Re: stoppie problems...
the higger you start to rock them, the more prone to headshake you will be.
do this:
Get a good damper, scotts, ohlins, toby etc (i run my toby 5 clicks out from full stiff)
run about 20-23psi in the front tire
make sure tire is good and wheel is balanced
make sure to keep arms almost completely straight and shift shoulders to steer
practice a lot!
oh and look straight out WAYYY ahead of you

Things to check.
1) Brake pads- check that they are good and thaat they are wearing even.
2) The Steering stem nut
3) Check your steering stem bearings
4) Front tire
5) Front forks

Re: stoppie problems...
i talked to some of the other riders and they told me to check the neck bearings. i pulled some low-speed ones lastnight and it went alright but everytime i get going at a decent speed it shakes. like i said it just started the past few weeks. thanks for the replies. ill make sure to look at all the factors.
Re: stoppie problems...
I'd try a new front tire before any of the other suggestions...seen lots of shake probs from bad front tire wear. If your head bearing nut was loose, you would notice a click when you hit the front brake.
Re: stoppie problems...
I rock endos all the time, after like a month the steering head bearing gets loose and start to click when it comes up. It just like one click sound when it comes up. At normal hard braking it's fine, but when all the pressure of the bike is top of the bearing it makes some sort of click. I tightened it and it went away. Now after maybe one month, it came back, I have to check it again.
one guy said that even during normal street driving he needed to tighten bearings at 3000miles intervals.(929)
I have 954.
