F4i Cam Chain tensioner

Okay, I'm pretty sure that my tensioner is ****, I noticed alot of noise from it yesterday, it wasnt there before. Anyways, I need to know if I should buy a new stock one or the APE one. If the stock ones go bad all the time, I would go APE, but am I gonna have to adjust it all the time? Also, would the tensioner off of a 929 fit? Or could I rig one from a bolt with some nuts? I need to probably fix this before the KCMW ride which is next weekend, (12th) so speedy replies are greatly apreciated! Thanks for the help

Re: F4i Cam Chain tensioner

don't worry about adjusting it-mine has 8k hard miles on it and i've never messed with it-still no noise.

have fun getting it in there though!

Re: F4i Cam Chain tensioner

not much room in there-easy to lose parts in places where you can't see them. Not necessarily difficult (2 bolts and a gasket), but getting in there to tighten everything properly will probably test your patience.

Re: F4i Cam Chain tensioner

Hello All:

I am a newbie to stunting, but I do ride a CBR600 F4i, and the CCT has started making noise. So I bought the manual and the part to fix it myself (I thought). It seems that the manual states that the Throttle Body has to be remvoed on the 2001 F4i's, which includes all the fuel injection stuff, and it exposes all of the cylendars too, making it harder to change the CCT. Therefore, I have choosen to take it to the Honda shop for them to fix. They said it will be $260.00, plus the part (which I already bought). That sucks! Why would they make it so hard? Anyway, I see here alot of ppls, say just leave it alone, but that could do more damage to the CC, right or worse? And if I do leave it alone, how long can I leave it alone for, before it does do damage? Will wait for some replys. Thanks, MB:YEAH

you DON'T have to take off the throttle bodies.....The hardest part is getting the two bolts from the CCT loose. I used a 3/8 5mm allen socket that I cut the allen head part down to half its size and switched between a 3/8 ratchet and a 1/4 ratchet with a 1/4-3/8 adaptor.

The job is kind of a pain....especially if you don't have any tools, but I have done two of them now and its not all that bad and you really don't have to take off the throttle bodies.

Re: F4i Cam Chain tensioner

the ape site days the 929 is the same as with several other models and the stock cct i have read can go out as soon as 200 mile. i have an 01 cbr f4i and am going with the ape unit myself because i am going through the same problem and it is supposed to be set once and check periodicaly. i hve stopped riding since it started for fear of jumping a tooth at the cam gear but from the research i have done which is alot it is very tight to start with and wont jump a tooth but there is a first time for everything.... the ape unit dosnt come with the gasket so make sure you order that as well
