Re: what editing programs are you guys useing

ok, here is my two cents...everyone always asks what the best editing program to use is, and it depends on what you want to do with it and how much experience you have...

if you just want to make some clips of your boys to post up on the internet then the barest neccesity would be microsoft movie maker (comes with windows xp). its free (i.e. - not much coin) and is super easy to learn. if you want a little more than that but are still doing the internet thing then any of the vegas stuff would do (vegas 5 with dvd arch. 2 is good for making little dvd's to pass around to friends too). do some hunting on the net for that one if you do not want to fork over a few hundred bucks...check out bittorrent...

if you want to make high quality dvd's for sale or something, adobe premiere is the way to go. it does cost some money and i think adobe has the cracking process beat with their online registration now, so you will not find it through file sharing. the upside to spending all of that money is that you will be able to do so much more and have finer control over every aspect of your editing process...

if the adobe route appeals to you, look for a matrox capture card bundled with adobe premiere, audition, and encore. you get the software at a discounted rate plus a friggin amazing capture card for like 650.00...

just my two cents...

Uh...online registration is a joke...If you know where to look there is always a way around it..Not everyone who has a video editing station has internet access..there are loop holes to accomodate..and with loop holes come cracks..

Adobe Premiere is the good shiat for sure..But I am stuck on VV5 right now..Seems to do it all and is def a good choice for the low to middle end editor...Like you said the DVD architect 2 is also a good piece of s/w..

Cheers

Utter bollocks

Apart from the fact it's how you use the software that matters, not what it is, there's nothing Premiere does that a number of other NLEs can't also do, and Premiere is also a bastard to learn and not remotely intuitive. Quite simply it's well past its sell by date and isn't even produced for the MAC anymore - wonder why that is...

The only person who'd give the advice you just did is an editing snob who doesn't actually know what he's talking about

hmmm, lets see...

I offered my opinion about how i see things. i did not say that this is the rock solid truth and that nothing else is the case. as badly as you just took that **** sounds to me like someone has a chip on their shoulder...get over it. it was a simple question...

actually premeire is not that hard to pick up if you have used photoshop or any other adobe product. now, i am no adobe die hard that refuses to use any other software, it is just what I find easier to use...

i like premiere because you can put a clip into your timeline and just double click on it to bring up its properties in the editing window and keyframe away to your hearts content. i like premiere because you can import and export from photoshop very easily. i like premiere because you can export to after effects and do alot of "clean up" with relative ease...

i like vegas for quick and dirty projects that i do not need to have such fine control over or need to complete in a hurry. like i said before, there is nothing wrong with vegas, i like vegas. but i also like to have fine control over the project i am working on when it is for retail distribution where quality is at issue...

and if you the mac is important to you, why are you even concerned with premiere? final cut pro is the ***** for the mac...

The way it went down over here....

I cut Urban Street-Bike Warriors Three & The Tony D Freestyle Film on Final Cut Pro HD. I'm a mac guy so that was the way to go. To buy that software new & The DVD Studio Pro (Authoring) New was $1,200.00. Believe you me I did not want to spend that kind of money on software but I painted myself into a corner by using FLAWED software that I grabbed. Finally I couldn't go on any more and broke down and spent the money. I'll say this "You get what you pay for".

I also went out and bought a new G5 and had a second internal hardrive installed so it could hold a massive amount of media. The "Final Cut" keyboard with all the shortcuts right on there helped alot too.

The whole deal was not cheap but I had to go big, the stakes we're high!

Respect.
