FZR isn't running right

1991 FZR600 18,000 miles
new plugs, coolant, fuel filter, battery, air filter.

i pulled the bowls off the carbs and shot carb cleaner and air in the jets and carb. i adjusted my throttle cable at the carbs and my throttle snaps back good but,.....

..... when i ride it i can't get the idle right, if it's set to low it will idle down and kill after about 1 minute of sitting and if it's set to high my rpms won't drop when i shift gears.

i have like 15hrs of tinkering into this thing, take it apart, put it together, take it apart, put it together.

i'm out of idea's

any help would be great.

Re: FZR isn't running right

put the carbs back on run the bike try to find a sumwhat descent Idle and spray carb cleaner round the boot area, If the idle fluctuates you have an air leak. Wich sounds like your issue.

Re: FZR isn't running right

i pulled the pilet jets this time and soaked them over night, i'll try that with fresh gas this friday. do i have to remove the air screws and springs and spray carb cleaner in them? i don't want to mess with there settings, sounds like a ***** to do considering you have to remove the tank to adjust them everytime. how are you supposed to spray carb cleaner on the boots when the tanks back on covering them? the boots are a little weather checked on the outside but perfectly smooth on the inside. 4 of those boots are over $130 for new ones from dealer.

Re: FZR isn't running right

oh and after i did the half *** carb clean last saturday it would idle but the rpms would hang up when i'd rev it. my throttle cable is nice and loose and the throttle snaps back nice, but the damn rpms drop to slow after a rev. i guess i'll see what happens after i work on it this friday.
