MX bars
Re: MX bars
ok anaswer to the question. mainly its a matter of preferance. i grew up on motocross bikes so i love the feel of mx bars on my bike, but ive met people that olny rode sportbikes and hate the feel of mx bars. the mx bars make you sit more upright and stick out further giving you more leverage to control the bike such as in stoppies. as far as where to find risers just go to your local bike shop and get a bolt on set for a motorcross bike. just about every company that makes oversized bars makes risers. then just drill holes in your triple clamp and bolt them on. oh ya when buying the risers check that there tal enough so the bars dont hit the fork caps or steering shaft nut if they stick up.
Re: MX bars
HAHA!!! Yeah, sorry. I changed mine because it was beaten into my head that i would stoppie for days and the overall leverage (sp?) would be better. Like, superior bike control. I first had them on my 02r6. It took a few to get used to,but I liked it so much that when i built my 929, there was no question about the bars. I think they make alot of things easier but at the same time, people rockin clip-ons don't seem to be strugglin. I like 'em. Will never go back.
If you want to get a set of risers, call Tim @ freestyle Ingenuity or Full Throttle Inc. Depends on your budget. Tim has a set that will bolt to stock clamps right where they taper down. $100.00

Re: MX bars
Like dude said before, you've gotta use special risers for the 954. The upper triple tree has 30 degree angles on it, and the only way to make the bars mount level is to offset that with opposite 30 degree angles on the risers.
I've been riding streetfighter with MX bars on my 900RR for about a year now, and am right now in the middle of bolting up a complete 954 front end on my 900RR. I ran into the issue with the risers, and got a set from Tim at F.I. They work great, and I think they cost less than $75. A MUST HAVE for MX bars on a 954.
Do it!

Re: MX bars
I don't know, for highway stuff I'd still prefer clip ons, but anyhting remotely slow the MX bars give you more leverage to keep your bike from wobbling. If it's a stunt bike just do it, if you don't like it put it back but chances are you'll like it.
Re: MX bars
I rode wiht clip-ons for almost 2 years on my cbr600rr, and I'm kinda big and always rode atv's, so trying tank wheelies felt REALLY uncomfortable since it felt like I was sitting extremely tall AND reaching really far down to reach the clip-ons. I modified my tank a little and went to mx bars about 2 weeks ago, still getting used to it, but pretty sure I'm not gonna go back unless I go to a bike like an F4i that has taller clip-ons. The width it adds gives you alot more confidence too. Plus, alot more things feel comfortable, and what would have been scary situations feel like nothing now...i.e. B. Smith was filming me today and I was doing a pretty fast sit-down with spent tires and I started to wobble left to right, would have set it down and tried to keep from wrecking with clip-ons, instead I kept riding it and seeing how long I could keep the wobble and wheelie going.....NO WRECK, and didn't feel like I was gonna.
