Transmission change: 2002 CBR 954 RR
There's a 2002 honda cbr 954 RR for sale, but it has an automatic transmission. I was wondering if it's possible to buy this bike and change the transmission to a normal, sequential one?
If so, would anybody have an idea how much that kind of a job would cost?
The bike costs $2000 Canadian (with extremely low mileage), I would be willing to buy it if the conversion would be another $2000.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

uhhhhh... how and/or why was there an automatic tranny in a bike? i didnt think it would fit.... you have to have room for the torque converter and all the planitary gears.
i personaly wouldnt touch it.... changing tranny's isnt usually a good idea IMO

i've never heard of that. However, to switch the transmission you have to remove the engine. It's not that hard but it is time consuming and can be costly if you don't already have the tools. On a 954 the engine cases have to be split to get to the tranny. If your into wrenching or want to learn a lot about a motor then do it. If you suck at turning a wrench and don't have good tools then don't.
Second, since I've never seen an automatic 954 I would do some more research on it. More then likely your not just dealing with the transmission but the clutch as well. Sounds like its some sort of centrifigul system or a clutchless system. If you want a normal bike I would stay away from that one. rare bikes are nice for crowd appeal but they are a biotch to get parts for. A normal 954 transmission should be about a grand if you get a decent deal.

if you can see the bike in person, then get it. sounds like a scam to me though
anyways....you can get another motor for around 2000 so i would do it but only if i saw the bike
