02 R1 clutch...push rod Q's ...
Never worked on a r1 b4. But's here's the scoop.
Bike won't roll in gear. in "N" it will. So we pulled off the clutch case to see if the posh rod was jacked.
It just falls out !!! I know w. Honda's the push rod pulls back on the clutch springs. But w. the yamaha...it seems to not be hooked up to anything??
Help me out.

1. Bike will roll in Nuetral
2. In 1st gear w. clutch engaged. The bike doesn't want to move.
3. Same effect if I go to 2nd (+) gear.
4. Did my major clutch adjustment down by the case cover. No luck.
5. Clutch feel is good. Pulls back like normal but still no luck moving the bike while in gear.
6. Clutch case removed to inspect Spine position/push rod
7. Push rod falls out vs Honda's that stay in place.
8. Here' the fiche. Part # 20 is the push rod I'm talking about.

I think it might just be frozen plates?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys.

yes that piece will fall out. havent seen one yet that actually stayed in place unless there was alot of oil on it to hold it in place. the piece HAS to move to engage/disengeage the clutch.
as for not rolling, did you adjust it according to a manual ? start the bike and let it warm up and try to roll it in gear ? does it move ? if it does then its just the oil between the plates and nothing to worry about.
do you have the 1/8" slack at the lever/perch ? if not then its too tight and thats your problem.

Okay...before I freak you out, i want to say that it is more likely that it is just oil and engine debris messing with the oil viscosity level and also kinda glueing your plates together...HOWEVER:
Yamaha clutch baskets are ALL notoriously on the weak side...if a crack developes or begins to develope or if warping occurs, it can lead to your plates sticking...The warping could be so miniscule at this point that without oil circulating, the plates simply are harder to seperate...I would recomend that you remove the plates, inspect the hub for abnormal wear and sand down your steels with a rough pad to deglaze them...if you know your specs you can also measure your fibers...but as they are not very expensive, i ussually recomend replacement (only 60 bucks or so) and the you can save your old frictions for an emergency clutch swap.
