bolts stripped out....???

well i just recently bought another F4i and its an 01....

ive done some work on it but im kinda stuck here....
the bolts that hold on tail fairing are stripped out... what should i do?
i could drill it out and then use a heli-coil and just retap the hole... but is it worth that much effort... or is there any other way to get it out?!

thanks all.... photos are attached...

Re: bolts stripped out....???

just leave it, tail sections are held on by seats, not bolts but in all seriousness, the top one looks like it will come out with vice grips, i dont see the issue there, and the others i would drill out.

and if i drill it out then i have to go get the heli-coil....

Re: bolts stripped out....???

try an easyout from a hardward stor first, directions to use it are on the package, all you need is a drill and some small drill bits. If that doesn't work, CAREFULLY drill it out, step by step getting bigger and bigger with the bits. If you are VERY careful to be Exactly centered with the first one, you can drill till the broken off or stripped bolt is really thin and break it out, then run a tap thru to fix the threads. Last resort is either heli-coil (which i don't like) or drill and re-tap.

i would just drill it out and re tap it. it should take about 10 minutes.

heli coils suck, they always come out.

you probly corss threaded the holes, just re tap it and your done. its going to be a metric thread too, i assume

TIMESERTS do the same thing as heli-coils but are more solidly constructed. you drill the hole to the size needed, counter sink the hole, tap the hole, put the timesert in, and then put a tap type bit thru the timesert to set the last 2-3 threads which hold it in place.
