To hide the plate or Not to hide the plate.

To hide the plate or Not to hide the plate.
That is the question. When I owned my bike, I had a "remote" licence plate flip up switch. That kept me from having to bend my plate. I used a lawnmower throttle cable and some ingenuity. What does everyone else use to "hide" their licence plate from prying eyes. I have heard about bending it up, mounting it in front of the rear tire so it is at least displayed, but what are some other ways to hide the plate? I thought there was an electronic licence plate frame that had a screen like a calculator or something that turned the whole screen black at the flip of a switch or something when you didn't want to show it. I can't remember where I saw it. Any clues, pictures, or suggestions?

Re: To hide the plate or Not to hide the plate.
i rigged mine up... quit blowing your money aimlessly.
equipment:
1 broken brake lever
1 piece of wire (guitar string in my case)
1 hindge
1 spring
Worked like a champ till i put my seat back on and a piece on the bottom of the seat pushed my wire tight which held the plate up. To fix that its just a matter of re-routing. Just think back to the Maguiver days rigging up a folding plate is very simple.
I mounted the brake lever up near the front of my frame its not outa site but the cop that looked over my bike never said anything about it, or the spring when he was down takin my plate number (was covered in dirt and mudd so he pulled me over).
I know you get alot of money from the army but damn... spend it more wisley lol.

Just screw that ***** right to the bottom under your back seat...it looks sleak and no one can get a real good look at it unless they are right behind you and have a few seconds to check it out...i'll try to put a pic up, don't know if it'll work, but here goes...

the electronic thing is pretty trick. I rode with a guy who had it last season. If your asking for advice on a ratty stunt-bike, then bend it, use a cable, or whatever. But if its a nice clean bike, i'd definatly put the eclipse thing on it. You mount the plate inside the little 'case' which has a liscense plate light in it. When you hit the switch, the light inside goes out, and the lcd display over it goes completely black.

those are pretty sweet...but on your stunter just turn around and bend it up,or slightly bend it which makes it a ***** to see...and normally you wont get tickets if the cops cool

Re: To hide the plate or Not to hide the plate.
thise electronic things are garbage.
all they give u is the glass part and u have to make your own frame n ****.
wich sucks..
and the thing is waaayy bigger than a bike plate anyways..
and its not water proof.
and when it gets dewy out site it doesnt work.
good idea.
but bad design.
the flip up plate thing in the link above is coo but its too dam expensive.
i had my plate mounted to my swingarm on the side....
and every time i though i was about to need to hide my plate ....
i reached down with my foot and folded up the plate.

I spray wd-40 or chainwax on it and find some fine dust to start with and "dust" it on the sticky plate. The longer you ride, the blacker it gets, soon you cant read it. I have even been pulled over for stupid ****( I stop sometimes), and the cop has to read it all close to see it. There is no law stating you have to wash your plate. "I blew a motor in my last bike officer, thats where the oil came from".
