will this custom cage work

my buddy is tryin to design a custom cage for him and me and I was just wondering if you think this work work alright.
These are the pieces he's using. The long one is not cut or drilled yet.

this piece bolts to the frame where the engine mounts near the gas tank. it will serve as a mounting point, and an extension.

this piece will attach to it and hold my crash bar. (the bar will be able to be removed if needed)

this is the other end location where the bar would connect to. it is the basically the same as the 2nd picture.. it will also have an extension to which the bar wil bolt on to. this is another engine to frame mounting point though it is newar the belly of the bike.

And this is how the bar will be mounted. this will protect the engine case and fairings if the bike falls over.

So what do you guys think?

Re: will this custom cage work

because the bar is so low to the ground, it will have a tendency to throw the bike onto the tank.

i would try to keep the bar as high as possible so the bike will stay on the side it falls on. if you need some help, get back to me on PMs. i dont mind helping people make quality cages

Re: will this custom cage work

i would be the one building this cage. the cage is for my zx7r... i looked at a few pics of cages on the net, i couldnt find one for my specific bike to get an idea. i didnt really know where good mounting locations would be. i figured the sturdiest places would be the best. id really like to keep it simple and not to obstructive to me as a rider. i think somethign bulky like i usually see (ones that are triangle shaped and also run underneath the belly to connect to the other side) but any of your help would be greatly appreciated

Re: will this custom cage work

with just that bar running across , it will probally cause more damage than if it wasnt even on , look at other cages and see how there made and go from there , your on the right track though

Re: will this custom cage work

Im no cage designer like MXD. But i think that you'd be better off moving the bar up to that other bolt on your frame right infront of your rear-sets. Cause like MXD said it's goin to want to roll over onto the cowl/tank if its mounted low like that.

Ive never seen a 905 cage mounted so up high like that... it looks like it might actually keep the bike from rolling over onto the cowl for once!!

the MXD cage hits the ground before the kickstand does

i dont know what thats about but its huge and you can only get one bike in the truck at one time

Re: will this custom cage work

doesnt stick out anymore then the 905 cage on F2/F3's. If im not mistakin it may actually fit tighter down on the bottom (pretty sure actually).

edit: Oh and MXD sent me those pics when the F2/F3 cage was still a prototype, so ignore the welds

if you are a stunter, then why would you care if you could turn sharp or not?
thats why we make track cages, for the people that dont stunt full time. they work great and are by far the sleekest thing on the market today.

as far as the cages hitting before the kickstand, they actually sit closer to the farings than a 905, but they go further down the bike. this way we dont have to put a bar through the headers and knock off oil filters everytime you crash.

and you must have a little *** truck, i can get 2 750s in my truck at the same time, and those are some of the bigger bikes out.
