Stoppie Help
Stoppie Help
Well, i ride a 2001 GS500, yea yea yea i know but hey its nice. Anyways, I can get the *** end up, decent height but not near the BP. So here is my problem, I can get it up now without locking the front tire, almost every time very smoothly. The longest I have ridden one out is like 2 seconds. I was wondering if anyone has any tips to make them come up smoother and to hold them out longer. Do i need more speed? Do i need less brake as the tail comes up higher? A combination of both? Thanks ahead of time!

Re: Stoppie Help
what speed are you comming up? i learned my stoppies from around 40mph. also try looking foward and NOT the ground. i also grip the tank with my legs and lean a little foward (i have grip pads where my leg meets the tank). some people say to lock your arms, but i keep mine bent a little. also a GOOD soft tire and braided lines might give you a little more confidence for longer (higher speed) stoppies. also a DAMPNER!!! hope this helps...

I ride a GS as well...
get the progressive springs for the forks.. stiffer.. helped me on my GS lift the front easier, but makes for more headshake in rough roads. GSXR front end conversion... It's so hard for the single front brake to do much.. but it can.. if u really try hard..

Well so far i havent tried a stoppie over 30MPH, im afraid i might go to high and flip it, which would suck caus eim tryin to sell it. I havent had the cash yet for progressives but it something that is certainly comming. And I figure if I can get it up on a single rotor up front, it cant be to hard at all on a dual rotor sportier bike. But thanks for all the help, i guess in order to progress more i will need to pick up the speed a little and use a little less braking after i get it up. Anyways, Thanks all!!
Re: Stoppie Help
I'm not knockin the 500.. I had a ninja 500, and hell a Ninja 250 too.... but a bigger bike makes it soooo much easier.
If you are trying to sell it, I'd hold off and sell it minty while you still can.

Re: Stoppie Help
don't be scared to go at least 35 or 40mph.. those are the best speeds to learn on... I actually had a harder time trying to stoppie starting from lower speeds. Any lower and you're slamming the brake pedal, and just dead stopping. . . about 80% of the brake down at about 35/40mph, should get u rolling nice and tipped sweetly
