Re: The AIR FiLter

is the 02 carbed or injected?
Basically when you get a filter or a pipe it's going to allow more air to flow through, allowing for more power, basically. Now when you change one of those it changes the mix or air and gas in the cylinder, usually makes it too lean, (too much air, not enough gas) Now I'm not sure if a K&N will make a huge difference in this but you probably want to get either a jet kit or a PC3, depending on if your bike is injected or carbed.

I'm sure more people are going to post much more intelligent posts after this

Re: The AIR FiLter

Well if your absolutely sure it's carbed then what all do I have to do if anything besides just replacing the old filter?

Re: The AIR FiLter

Personally, i think the gains you get with a Air Filter are negligable, and i'd rather spend my money on something else. the 99-02 bikes are carburated, which require a jet kit, if you install an exhaust. The Air Filter will flow more air w/ less restriction, but it still can only filter as much as the engine can take, so i don't think you would have to adjust w/ a bigger jet or such.

With the 03-5 bikes, came Fuel Injection. With these, any change w/ the air filter, exhaust, slide stops, velocity stacks, etc requires a Power Commander to get maximum HP out of the mods. But, it is not necessary to have them for an exhaust/filter, but is highly recommend'd.

That should pretty well sum it up, if i said something wrong, maybe someone will correct me.

Re: The AIR FiLter

Dont do it man! the KandN doesnt work on the 99-02 R6, you will loose power even with thousands of dollars in jetting and dyno runs. I used to own a 01 R6 and we tried differernt filters and nothing works better on that bike then the stock Yamaha filter. Just take it out and wash it
