As far as longevity, a weld will last longer. With riveting, I've seen cans fall apart from the bike being dropped on it's side. Also vibration from the canister doesn't help either.

Also, i had it cut and welded in the middle because the erion doesn't come with a end cap and the canister is real narrow compared to other canister's. So it would have been hard for me to find a cap that would fit. And i wanted to keep the erion racing emblem on the pipe. Plus the cut and weld are covered by the clamp that holds the exhaust so it looks like i never cut it.

It looks so clean that people don't believe that i cut it

All of you fellas who have riveted pipes. The trick is, when you drilled the rivets out. There is still a lil bit holding on that you cant get to with the drill. What you do is take a punch or a nail and gently hammer the back half loose. Gently but firm.

Did you build time machines at that shop too? If so, hop in it and maybe you can help this dude shorten his pipe in 04!

Re: cutting exhaust pipe!?

I can see what Sambo is talking about though, I've got a Leo Vince SBK CF exhaust on my 600RR and I think thats whats gonna happen to mine after I cut it short, but as for any other type of pipe that isn't CF you'll be fine cutting it and re- riveting it.
