Toggle switch Headlight

Can you put a toggle switch between the wires coming from the headlight??
This is for an '01 F4i
I tried it with a different switch and kept blowing fuses

What have others done??

Re: Toggle switch Headlight

my RR runs 1 headlight for lo beam. so when i wana go stealth i just pull the plug on the back of the bulb. so easy and within reach.

then when i need lights again all i do is switch on my other headlight ( high beam)

i only do this when im in " stealth mode"

Re: Toggle switch Headlight

if you want to kill the headlights the best thing to do is go to your fuse box, if the headlight has its own fuse than install a 2 way switch (on,off) inline with the wire that comes out of the fuse box directly under the headlight fuse, that way it cuts power to the headlights. I did that to my tail light for poping the light off when the pigs are chasing you, but its not a good idea to do it to the headlight. If it is blowing a fuse that means that you are touching wires together or the wire has touched the frame... Duct tape it up...

Good idea
thanks

Two fuses blew cause the switch I used was not recommended for such a system. When I put the wires back to normal it worked fine. I want to add a switch cause sometimes after work I have a couple hours to practice while its not to dark out. My spots aren't the greatest and my headlight bouncing up and down would be more noticeable then not.

Re: Toggle switch Headlight

cut the connection to your positive brake light wire right before the lightbulb, and run it back up to a switch w/ in reach. then run the output wire from the switch back to the light were the first wire that was cut. The switch will act as a conductor spacer for your brake light. easy.

Re: Toggle switch Headlight

To turn your low beam on/off you should be able to just cut the high beam wire. When you flip your headlight switch to high, your headlight will turn off.

Re: Toggle switch Headlight

i took out the headlight relay. its under the tip over sensor above the headlight. make a jumper wire ( 3-way ). spade connectors work fine. it plugs into the connector ( it replaces the relay ). it switched my high/low beams, so the high beam is always on and the low beam is controlled by the highbeam switch, just unplug ther highbeam lightbulb. and have some extra fuses at hand cause if you touch a pos. & neg u'l blow the fuse. The relay connector has 4 wires, 3 pos & 1 neg, DO NOT USE THE NEG WIRE leave it disconnected, but i forgot what color wire was the neg. i will look at my bike later and post up what wires to use. This mod. works great and it doesn't require any damage to you bike. if you take the jumper wire out and replace it with the relay it be like you never
fu(ked with it at all

any questions feel free to PM me and i will try to help

Re: Toggle switch Headlight

I just have mine wired a little different. So when your low beam, your headlights are off. and when you switch to highbeam, the lights turn on.
Just do that. it's cake.

Re: Toggle switch Headlight

Any ideas to design a system that with a switch would cut your brake/head lights/lift up you plate/dampen your exhaust/give you night vision? I'll have to work on that. Also, anybody ever wire up a light underneith your bike that would come on with some sort of mecury switch to light up the road when in a wheelie?

Re: Toggle switch Headlight

put a switch on the negative side of the light that way you can use a smaller switch (alarm valet switch)

I was just thinking of the exact same thing, slick the "stealth" switch instead of 7 individual things. You'd have to hook all the stuff up and the run wires up to the handlebars and splice them all together to one switch. Don't ask me, I'm not an electrician.
