stand up help!!!
new to stunting so bare with me. i can do a sit down wheelie pretty well. i clutch it up in second and ride for a good bit. i've started getting bored so i've been trying stand ups and i am having difficulties. first of all, clutch or power(bounce)??? i hated power wheelies in first for some reason because i just couldn't get a good control of the throttle i guess. i had problems judging how high the front end comes up when i power, but clutching seems really easy to me. that's when i'm sitting down ofcourse. i've been bouncing it in second while standing, but like when sitting and powering it up, i can't judge the height of my front wheel. i've tried clutching it while standing and that is too damn scary. any suggestions??? remember, these aren't slow wheelies i'm talking about. should i stand on front pegs or left back right front??? ANY tips will help. i ride an 03 r6 by the way...
Re: stand up help!!!
only way to get comfortable is to practice, might as well learn the correct way and go staggered stance, clutching will be the easiest and most fluid motion, and may seem less dangerous then bouncing, but when bouncing hits that 45* angle, it flies up,, so if you can clutch it to the right spot, you are golden, try sitting down, and right when you pop the clutch stand up with it...make it one motion,, try it and lemme know, and cover the rear brake!

Re: stand up help!!!
Ive been practicing standups too; for a couple weeks now and still can't hold it at the balance point but i have no problem getting it to lift. I learned to get it up with both feet on the front pegs, i kinda bounced and clutched in 1st when i first started but found out that the bounce is only needed in 2nd and 3rd gear wheelies. 1st will come up with clutch only. But by bouncing and clutching, i didn't have to slip the clutch hard to get it to lift and that allows you to get comfortable with the launch. GSXR7502001 has lots of good advice on the forum. I posted some threads about standups and got great replys and great advice. Search for those and it will help you. Once you get it up consistantly you'll get frustrated. Then its not is it coming up?, its can i hold it there???? I can't yet but still practicing.

whoa whoa now, i wouldn't redline 2nd while standing...bad idea...you have no idea how much this kid weighs or anything, i know on those r6's that you can bounce up second, all throttle, therefore you do not need to redline 2nd and pop it...take it to like 5k rpm,, and crack the throttle and pop the clutch,...fast motion

the rpms drop right back down to about 7 or 8 once you slip the clutch. yes it comes up fast, but thats a good thing, keeps it slower. cover the brake and it doesnt matter if you redline it in 1st. i weight 180 and keep all my weight towards the back of the bike. i did it in 1st too on accident, all i had to do was tap the brake and let off the throttle a little and i came down nice & smooth.
if you dont have rear brake control then you shouldnt be doing this in the first place

Re: stand up help!!!
ok here is an update. in 2nd gear, i can get the front up with bouncing it up with both feet on front peg. NO CLUTCH. the only problem is i can't keep it up. first of all, it doesn't come up that high, but it does consistently. the problem i noticed today is that when i bounce the front up, i'm too scared to lean back so i am literaly hugging the tank with my legs and it comes right back down. i really dont' like bouncing it because like someone said earlier, it jumps at a certain point. i have a good feel for the clutch when sitting down in 2nd so i would like to stick with that. SO, i decided to go with left back right front and practice clutching while standing. HERE IS THE PROBLEM I NOTICED FROM MY WHEELIE SESSION TODAY.
1)i feel very unbalanced with stagered feet(i'm sure i'll get used to it)
2)i'm having trouble holding on(when i clutch it, most of the time the front won't come up like it does when i'm sitting down. it just lunges forward, therefore almost throwing my *** off the bike)
3)the few times i got the front end up, i didn't know what i needed to do next. lean back and try and get the bike to come up with me or give it more throttle and let the bike lean me back as it's coming up???
***should i practice standups in first gear first or stick with higher speed second gear wheelies???
***even on higher speed wheelies, should i still let some air out front my tires??? how does tire pressure help me with wheelies???

Re: stand up help!!!
I learned clutch wheelies only, never did more than about 3 power wheelies.
To get a stand up, I'd clutch it in 2nd at around 45mph, then straighten my arms and legs as the bike came up. Like the 2nd poster said, one smooth motion. I'd stand up as the bike came up.
