Steering Wheelies?

Okay, I know this has been asked many times before but I wanted some specifics.
This is also my first post! My name is Mark and I ride a stock DR650 with street rubber.
So, I can hold my wheelies almost indefinitely at this point and I mostly use my left leg across the seat and my right foot on the rear brake. Anyways unless the turn is banked I have some difficulty getting my bike to turn, and I am in second gear going 30 to 40 ish. I did recently put a new tire on and am able to turn a bit better, but in first I find I am very susceptible to falling to one side and cannot recover. I know this all takes practice but I want to be able to "swerve" and change lanes like you see the people on dirtbikes doing on youtube (not in traffic for me but to give you an idea).
It almost seems to me that if I start going to one side I can pull further up and either hit bp again or go a bit past and the rear tire will "center" and I will be going in a different direction. Weighting the pegs and shifting my body helps sometimes, but not always.
One more thing, before I got my new tire I was good at scraping, and now when I go past bp for too long it seems that my bike will try to fall left or right. The old tire was basically flat so that made steering hard and added stability to my scrapes, but is there any advice for being more stable now that I have a properly rounded tire?
Thanks and sorry for the long post!
