My Idea?
My Idea?
Im riding a 2001 F4i which I understand is a great bike for stunting but I'm having a small problem. I can get wheelies up in 1st gear no problem at any speed and ride it out pretty good and I can bounce it up in 2nd gear pretty much perfect every time but the problem I'm having is the balance point. as soon as I get the bike up where it feels like its on the edge of its balance point I try to let off the throttle a small amount to keep it in that floating spot where the bike feels weightless but everytime i let off it comes down a bit to far to the point where i have full throttle to try to keep it up but it just slowly comes back down. Every once in a while I can get it where i can twist the throttle back and forth a little bit and keep it going up and down in that steep wheelie but its hard to keep the adjustment to just balance it there.
i have tried using my rear brake but as soon as i try to softly tap it to even it out it snaps down real fast. When i changed my tire my back brake has never braked as hard as it used to so i dont think its due to my brakes being to touchy. Anyway my idea is this, If i jump it up at the speed to where it slowly rises to the point where it starts to feel like it gets weightless and could go over if i hold the throttle right where it is steady without letting it off and slowly try to press the brake a little bit to over ride the throttle and basically hold the throttle at one point while i slowly keep tapping the brake to slow it down a little. In my head it sounds easy but at the same time its scary because i feel like if i am to slow with the brake that open throttle is going to take off and take me over.
I know that the brake is necessary for wheelies but on videos i always see them riding it steady without the brake because i dont see the brake lights come on all the time.
Any advice on how to get a little more comfortable with the brake and trying to keep it in the balance longer. I feel like the hard step is over being brave enough to put it all the way up in 2nd and ride it a ways I am just having the hardest time keeping it there

Re: My Idea?
So you know that point where you feel like you're gonna flip backwards? Bring your front wheel back another foot and that's balance point. Don't chicken out and chop the throttle, roll off a tiny bit and smoothly apply your rear brake as you dip behind that point.
Re: My Idea?
alright that makes me more comfortable because I knew that it was either AT that point or a little past because it felt almost impossible to keep it up right on the point where there is resistance on the throttle. I'm just nervous of the bike going a little to far and starting to wobble side to side like you see sometimes in videos when the tire catches and throws you off. my rear tire pressure is 40psi right now because i still get into a lot of corners and sometimes I get some speed on it but how big of a help would it be to go like 20 - 25psi for 2nd gear 45mph wheelies?
aslo is there a quick post someone could throw me of adjusting the idle? Is there a certain amount or RPM for stunting or could i just search my self and turn it up a little more then it is?

Re: My Idea?
when you're at balance point, the fork tubes should be horizonal with the ground. Just look down at them when you think your a BP and if they are not horizontal bring it back more until they are and work from there. I ride with 35-40 psi on the streets. It makes steering wheelies easier (for me at least). You should practice in a lot and get throttle control and braking down then hit the streets.
