clutch slipping or too high RPM?
clutch slipping or too high RPM?
I can clutch it up perfect almost every time in 1st and it comes up easy and feels smooth. I have done a few good ones in 2nd and rode out the gear but recently I cant get it up as easy as I did before. I'm not sure if my clutch is going bad or if my RPM's are too high. I'll be in 2nd doing 50 - 55 and stand up and give it a bounce while cluting it pretty hard from what I think and it comes up about half way but you can hear the clutch grab with that dragging out sound. it doesnt sound like the clutch grabs 100% therefore it wont come up all the way for me. My tach does not work so I cant tell you the rpm range but im doing 50 - 55 in 2nd gear. RPM's are pretty high but I'm wondering if they were lower it would have alot more to grab then just a few grand away from redline?
its an 01 F4i with 17k miles. I'm pretty sure the clutch has never been changed. People have told me they can get there's up on the highway doing 90 in 4th gear with there bike at 20k miles. I belive if i tried that i would not have a clutch left at all.

Re: clutch slipping or too high RPM?
My f4i wont come up in 4th... With stock gearing I had to ping it off rev limiter to get it up in 3rd...
Easy way to check clutch, put bike in 3rd or 4th, get up to about 8k rpm, pull clutch in, hold throttle wide open, let go of clutch... It should drop the rpm's and accelerate.. If the revs just go to redline and stay then your clutch is slipping
