death wobble??

i have just started to get slow wheelies down and some brake control...im slowly progressing in that area, but my question lies in my second gear wheelies at about 60mph...im dragging the bike past bp and letting the engine brake bring her down...my point is what causes the death wobble? is it tire pressure? (im runnin about 25) or is this just something that naturally happens? please be easy on the bashings..

Re: death wobble??

I think he is talking about wobbles while on one which is most likely caused by not being smooth on the gas. Choppy throttle will mess you up big time

But coming down hard or crooked will give you a tank slapper like what T/C said

You are right my bad for not reading everything he said... lol And he is also right about the throttle control causing it...

The smoother you are the smoother they will be Stick to slow wheelies is the best advise anyone here can give you.. when you can do it slow then worry about going fast

Re: death wobble??

bump the psi to 30-35 for fast wheelies, under 25psi it'll whooble(which is odd, because its vise versa for slow wheelies)

Re: death wobble??

yea, i had a bad experience with the tank slappers. 2 weeks later i made my best investment in a scotts stab. so just be more gentle on the gas/few more psi? illl go try her out.

Re: death wobble??

What I've noticed is that if you are just in front of BP the bike is much less stable than if you are just in back of BP and riding the rear brake.

When I'm doing slow stuff, I try to keep right at BP so that I don't pick up speed or slow down and stall, but on the street or freeway, I really try to keep the bike just behind BP. I've actually straightened out a wobble by dipping past BP just for a moment. I'm sure that slowing down will help with the wobbles too.

Re: death wobble??

I wonder if he's talking about the "wobble" (I call it chattering) I felt yesterday and maybe two other times on my F4i. If I am doing fast **** and taking it to near rev limit just leaving enough to bring it down smooth and then having to slow down fast I feel this wicked chattering. Thought for sure I was getting on the brakes too much but letting off a little didn't help, switching from front to rear brake didn't help. It was only when I pulled in the clutch and got back on the brakes (even harder) that it subsided. I'm sure now that it was engine braking that was making my back wheel hop like crazy, kinda chattering. Didn't feel like a tank slapper as it wasn't picking up momentum and never feels like it's going to take me out but definately makes it little harder (longer) to stop in tight areas.

Is this what's happening to him or what I'm feeling?

Re: death wobble??

Guess you didn't read it all that well Kelm.

It happened when landing a fast wheelie and I'm not "slamming" on my brakes with the clutch out. Braking mostly with front, slightly on rear and still using engine braking.
Not always easy getting it out in text so guess I confused you. No prob, I'll figure it out on my own.

Thanks for the input...................
