trying to catch idle

i got a f4i and am trying to catch idle can ride balance point wheelies no prob but am having a hard time slowing them down. when u guys say turn the idle to 3500 rpm does that mean while its in neutral or while in first with throttle closed but at a roll. btw i do have the second idle cable installed

Re: trying to catch idle

in nuetral and in order to go slow you will need to use the rear brake so if you have good brake controll then turn up your idle and clutch it up from a stop right to balance point ....the quicker yo get the bike to balance point the slower you will be rolling once it gets there....

now you can start going fast like you are now and just go past balance point to slow it down but if it goes bad as a fast speed ot goes real bad so i suggest starting from a stop and just banging that bitch up....

Re: trying to catch idle

+1 on going from a stop.. just pop it up dip it past balance point brake and have your idle turned up and it should catch.. i run mine around 2700-3000 but it depends on your gearing.. i run a 60 tooth rear sprocket and down 1 in the front

yah and watch out for light poles . im at the same point learning to catch idle from dead stop, raising the idle higher for me has helped, but im still not that consistent

4000 is pretty high and you will really have to ride the brake alot try 3500

Re: trying to catch idle

Don`t wanna jack the thread but I think my question fits in here.

Will an 52 or 55T sprocket be good enough to roll idle wheelies on an F4i???

The reason why I ask is that I want to buy an F4i soon and I don`t want to overgear it with an 60T sprocket cause it shall be still rideable on the streets but I´m not sure how good an F4i will pull on idle with a 52T and 15 in front (-1/+6).

Currentyl I use -1/+4 on the 954 and 4K rpm is what I need for idle.... but I also think that I still brake too much...

Re: trying to catch idle

i could be wrong but i think u can roll idle even with a stock sprocket. thats what im trying to do anyways. i even seen omr doin circles with a stock sprocket. i might try a big sprocket and see if that helps with idle if i dont get it in a week

I know I know, I´m also not a fan of the very big sprockets, but it´s harder to go slow with stock gearing and you often come to the point where you stall it or have to use the clutch, that´s just my experience on the 954.
As example Da Liks just showed us all in a video how to do circles on a stock geared 929 but he is a very experienced rider and I think a little gearing always helps to learn slow stuff, when you have the technic on lock you can go back to stock....
