Do I NEED an O2 sensor?

Do I NEED an O2 sensor? I have a 2002 F4i and I recently looped it.. I cracked my exhaust and I needed to replace it.. the one I bought does not have a port for an o2 sensor... do I need to tap one in.. or can i just unplug it? And what will it do?
