Questions about staggered,& SS wheelies...

So I was out riding a bit last night, practicing my stand-ups...I noticed that when I'd do them I seem to go longer when my staggered knee is bent towards the tank (actually bent enough to touch the tank) vs. trying to lock them out. So am I supposed to lock it out or keep it bent?

I also found myself holding them up longer, but the bike is still speeding up, so I'm assuming I need the bike higher right? A friend of mine says to just stand straight-up, but kinda pull the bike back to me...This other guy says I gotta lean back more.....what do ya'll suggest?

I was trying to go into turns while staggered...Can do it a lil bit, but turnng left seems a lil bit easier than turning to the right (even when I turn while doing my sit-downs the left is easier) I think I'm trying to turn all wrong tho, what is the right way? Both sitting and standing staggered?

When u do wheelies w/ur knee in the seat, how do u place ur knee and foot? I've seen some with their knee in the seat, and their foot hanging off the other side of the foot. I've seen some w/knee in the seat, foot hanging off the back of the bike, which is the way I do it but I can't steer worth **** like that...Bike drifts to the right a lot. What is the solution?

Last question for now, Seat standers....are they much harder than stand-ups? Whats best method to doing it?

Re: Questions about staggered,& SS wheelies...

if the bike is at balance point you can stand up straight and relax some..

but if you are accelerating then it is hard to steer a wheelie so you are probably using your knee against the tank to keep the bike going straight..

once you get the bike up high enough to not speed up then you will eventually straighten your left leg but you will occasionally bend your leg to steer in one direction or the other ,it's not like you will lock your knee and ride out for ever because you will have to make corrections by moving your body around to compensate for grade in the rode and other **** like that ....

and ss are much easier once you are use to them because you will be centered on the bike and in a much more comfortable position

Re: Questions about staggered,& SS wheelies...

Ok, so on my way to my nephews lil league game I tried some stand-ups. But this time I wanted to go real slow, so I clutched it up in 3rd going about 30mph, I must have done a good clutching/timing job b/c I got it up high enough to where it didn't have to accelarate at all. I mean, I clutched it up pretty high, and just rode it out at like 40mph (3rd gear) for like half a mile or so....This truck was just riding next to me watching...Hell, I was looking over at him and nodding my head like " YYEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH BOOOIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!"

So then my nuts swole up a bit and guess what I thought about? Thats right, u guessed it.. SS's! SO I got out way by myself, hopped up in the seat but nothing felt comfortable at all. I don't know if I was standing on the seat wrong, or if these big *** feet just had me all off wack (sz 12). Right about then my nuts shrunk back up, but I tried to get it up a time or two anyway, but felt too uncomfortable. U know how it is, once ur mind is beat, thats a wrap. So I just chilled for the rest of my ride...

just remember if you don't have a hand brake you have to keep the rpm's kinda high for a seat stander so you will have engine brake cause if you go real slow with no hand brake you wont have any engine brake

Haha! Awesome! There's no better feeling. Half a mile is pretty long.. I have yet to do that but I held some nasty ones today and got some thumbs up.

Anyways, great job, I never tried that slow in 3rd, did you have to really give it some good gas? Or will a nice clutch slip with decent gas do it?
And did you bounce?

Now I'm not doing slow wheelies or anything like that....This is like back road kinda stuff, anywhere from 20-80mph....And I've just got to the point where I try them from 10-30mph in 2nd gear or 30-40mph in 3rd. So does the same high rpm rule apply?

Don't forget that this was on my stock 1k so it has more on the *** when I clutch 3rd, but I will probably get on my brothers 750 tonight and see if I can pull it up in 3rd. He swears he cant get it but I know I can...As for bouncing, I really don't do that. It seems that if I clutch it good enough it comes right up for me...

Re: Questions about staggered,& SS wheelies...

As soon as I get my 750 together I will work on the lots...I wanna get to circle wheelies and scrapin and all that. But for now I just got my 1k up...Ist gear on that thing in a lot? I mean, yeah I can't get it up, but its so touchy and torqy that I can't get it up that high, or keep it slow....I didn't thind 3rd gear at about 25-30mph was that fast.....

Id stay out of 3rd with the seat standers for now. Not alot of engine brake there. Work on them in first for now.

Re: Questions about staggered,& SS wheelies...

get a HB if you wanna get good at SS's, i started doing them and even slowing down in 3rd from 60 down to 45-50 without a HB but now that i have the HB i am way more comfortable doing anything like jumping from one to another and so on, i;d suggest to get to where you can ride a staggerred wheelie for miles at BP without gainging any speed before going much farther than that, lot **** is way harder to learn than fast wheelies, so if you wanna wreck your bike a bunch go to the lot and try first if you want to slowly learn do it faster first, sounds crazy but its way easier to control a bike at high speed than it is at 10 MPH or slower, trust me i have learned everything i can do at highway speed and just now starting to slow it down a lot, i have a bunch of vids to prove it.
