F4i subframe bracing
F4i subframe bracing
I snapped my ******* subframe today, gone in at least 2 places and the left side lower mount has snapped in half. Wasn't even a hard drop, I think the bolts had worked lose and it made the frame move which caused it to snap?
I don't think this frame is repairable because of the way its snapped on the right hand side and the fact its snapped in half at the mount.. I don't know if that'd be fixable??
Anyway, whether it gets fixed or replaced... any tips on how is best to brace it? Gonna either bolt some metal across it or get it welded to it... just want to know what others have done and what works best.

Re: F4i subframe bracing
have it aluminum welded.
never heard of one breaking from a small fall. mine has flipped end over end and is still good. they are probably the strongest of the subframes out there.

Re: F4i subframe bracing
The bolts had come loose so there was a lot of movement in the subframe, I didnt notice this until it was too late and the movement in the frame + putting it on the bar quickly from a circle made it snap.
Re: F4i subframe bracing
best bet, wire wheel that thing down to aluminum and have a shop weld it for you if you don't have an aluminum welder. you can also get some aluminum plate and re-inforce the mounts when you have it welded up.
Re: F4i subframe bracing
cheers man i'll get it braced up soon :YEAH oh and I'l make sure I check the bolts regular, never had any problems with it until the bolts come loose. so im pretty sure they are very strong normally. :YEAH
Re: F4i subframe bracing
ya, i try to check up on those bolts about every week or so just to make sure. same thing with cages...if they get loose the cage slams the mounting bracket causing damage.
you might want to search ebay for one, now that i'm thinking about it, most shops charge about 45$ or so labor rate for welding, that could get more expensive than buying a used subframe. im' not sure though, i've never had to replace a subframe so i don't know the going rate on used ones.

Re: F4i subframe bracing
My mate reckons it can be welded with lumiweld .. not entirely sure what lumiweld is but its a bit like brazing apparantly... he done his dual caliper handbrake set up with it and it turned out awesome so we're gonna give it a go and see how well it holds up. I've got another subframe on the bike at the minute but its twisted so want to get the snapped one repaired.
