I dont know what to do next....

im in the middle of this long learning curve.... I'm learning slow standups and sitdowns.... My basic skills are finally coming around...decent brake control...decent throttle control...decent side to side balance and steering. I'm able to maintain 15mph pretty good.....occasionally up to 25 and can slow back down ....have slowed a few to almost a stall.... and a few time while rockin back past BP I've come within 1 or 2 inches of draggin the rear bar.

What I'd like to do now.... Is start throwing some small variation in there...Something to break up the monotony..... ( I will still need to be practicing these slows for 50 or 100 more hours to get the "on lock" kinda control i want to ultimately have ) So what can I do in the meantime to start working on other little things.... I'm hanging on and can totally think about taking a hand off the bars OR taking my left foot and moving it or something...BUT....I'm using all appendages to hang on to the bike....I feel like If I remove one of them ...i wont be hanging on balanced and the control would go away.

for instance ....how does someone go to a different foot stance (withough launching the wheelie from that difference stance ? )

I just want to start trying to pick up other small stuff....and I mean small (not highchairs or coasters or anything outta my league yet) I practice by myself... and I'm old ....so I have to try and be and be somewhat safe.

thanks for any ideas or input .

Highchairs and spreaders are actually easier then stand ups if you ask me... its just getting over that awkward feeling of being on the tank in a wheelie.

Re: I dont know what to do next....

It's just practice... I was at the same sorta position as you a while back.. It just took lots of boring practice of just "normal" wheelyin.. learn idle .... that'll get you much more comfortable.. once I got idle learnt I started "looseing up" on the bike.. now I can clutch jump to SS, step to most positions on the bike (frog, flamingo etc ) and just starting to get over my fear of spreaders/hc's.

All I did was practice idle until I was comfortable enough to move about... I think the first thing I learnt from a normal wheelie was no clutch hand. that started getting me comfy taking my hands off the bars...

and practice practice practice.. fall off lots, you'll be fine :YEAH

that's odd.... doing spreaders dont really scare me, but yet any other trick does(SS, HC, etc.)

Re: I dont know what to do next....

Besides perfecting staggards on idle and trying to scrape, I started throwing in seat standers, foot on seat and sitdowns into the mix yesterday. It helps kind of mix things up a bit and its a lot more fun that way. Plus, I save sitdowns mainly for the end of my sessions and I can squeeze out another twenty minutes just doing them because they are not that much work.

Next weekend I want to get a spreader off the ground. I tried yesterday but only got some pop pops going.

Overall, adding a few more tricks to rotation has made riding even more enjoyable (didn't think that was possible) and it makes staggards, which I have been doing for exclusively for months, seem so simple.

I was in your boat until I just went out and did a SS and found out that they are very easy. I felt pretty silly after I did one and was like . Then it made me want to try other things because I knew they wouldn't be so bad either. 90% of this **** is mind over matter.

Re: I dont know what to do next....

ok...I hear what all of you guys are sayin'...and I think i'm catchin' some idle ( Idle is set at 3500 to 4000 ) and I'm regularily off the throttle...behind BP...lightly dragging my RB....for anywhere from 1 or 2 seconds to My longest which is about 6 or 7 or 8 seconds . (that is what you guys are calling idle , right ? no throttle input ?)

Yeah...I'm still having fun doing what Im doing...but Im trying to break up the repetativeness a little.... I can ride a No hander on a Quad for hundreds of feet....so I know the feeling of balancing my body (and not needing my hands)....BUT I cant find a position ...where I can lighten the load on either of my hands right now ...I'm probably just scared...and when I find the "next variation" I'll be kickin myself in the butt (like you guys) thinkin why didnt I do that sooner ? ...LOL

Thanks For your help help and suggestions

And Catman ....I'm always up for ridin' ..I'm currently puttin in 2 hours a day 6 days a week approx. It'd be great to practice with someone else (90% of the time im solo ) plus we could do the vid thing (riders make the best videographers ...except drew stone..hehe) Hit me up as to when you're thinkin' about....

Re: I dont know what to do next....

if ur trying to take ur clutch hand off what u should do to make it more comfortable is while in stagard put pressure on ur tank with ur knee and the inside of ur left leg. that way ur body isnt just flying around, and it will make it seem stable.

this is the most meaningful question I've read in a long time
Just take your time, You could crank your idle up and try to catch idle Then from there start learning no throttle hand, ect, ect.
Just practice, practice

And thanks Sketchy.... I'm doing exactly that....practicing as much as my body allows...

Re: I dont know what to do next....

Just so you know, 1 hand stuff is a lot harder on the rear peg compared to foot in bar, foot in seat or foot on seat... I'd reccomend learning one of the above first then you are more supported and in a better position to take your hands off the bars.. im not saying it isnt possible staggered, its just a lot easier FIB etc.
