Progressing from sitting?

I've been learning sit down wheelies and can get them going for a while, but I want to try standing up.

What's the best way to learn standups? Stand up as the bike comes up or stand up first and clutch it up then? Or is staggered the way to go because it gives you something to brace against with your foot?

I'm a little confused about this, so any help would be appreciated. Sorry if this has been covered before, n00b and all.

Cheers.

search the how to wheelie thread..
learn 1st gear, staggered, clutch it rolling a bit, baby steps, learn to trust the brake, and learn to tap it.. so that in a panic situation u hit it

Re: Progressing from sitting?

the front cylinder of the SV has a problemw with blowing because of lack of oil in wheelies....have fun with that.

Re: Progressing from sitting?

Lol, cheers.

But is that from long wheelies, or just gradually over time no matter how short they are?

Cheers for the tips. I'll have a go later today.

Re: Progressing from sitting?

Great, the joy of the SV.

I've heard of a few people getting on fine with them, can i solve this by adding more oil than I need to? I read it on another thread on here that's what some people do to solve the problem on the sports 600s.

Edit: Read the thread, but that's one opinion on standups, I wanted to know how YOU all do it. You might find something easier. Oh and I'm still clutching it in first, I haven't learned how to catch it just right in second yet.

Cheers.

Re: Progressing from sitting?

I don't think that adding oil helps that much...
I think it has to do with the oil system and how it pulls to the front cyl. good luck finding a solution.

Re: Progressing from sitting?

Haven't tried staggered yet. I'm worried I'm gonna put too much pressure on one foot and tip it sideways. But its wierd how much longer you can hold wheelies while standing.

Re: Progressing from sitting?

clutch it up and stand staggered there is no way your going to tip it over so don't worry about that, if your not used to using you back brake you need to train your foot, a good way to do this is to cut your wheelie short before you get to the rev limiter and apply the rear brake to bring it down {no matter if your even close to the BP} this will help you train your foot so when you do get to the BP or past it you wont loop.........

Re: Progressing from sitting?

Hi, I'm near 'stoke too... few of us not far from there...

SV's and wheelies don't really mix, I had a curvy style one and it broke pretty quick and I was **** at wheelies back then.. Veggie dave also blew up his SV650 within about an hour

As for standing.. staggered is best, cover rear brake, left foot on pillion peg, bike shouldnt lean to the left so don't worry about that but don't forget to spread your weight across both pegs too take it easy, and baby steps as Nick would say.

I'd say stick to 1st gear, keep it slow but don't give it too much clutch .. start low and gradually get higher as you get used to clutching it up from slower speeds..

hey man wildcard is dedicated to this, everyone starts somewhere, vince (wildcard) has a dedicated stunt bike and rides a lot and puts a lot into the uk stunt community trying to find legal spots and finding decent semi-legal spots and is really into this, that picture is OLD he's got tonnes better now and we will get some new pictures tomorow, okay we're not as good as you in america where you get to ride all the time but considering in england it rains every other day we're not doing too bad ..

anyway, i consider wildcard a stunter, maybe hes no Scary Gary or suicidl but hes stunting on a stunt bike doing stunts, so therefore he is a stunter

Not our fault are police are f*cking beats compared to yours. While you get a telling off and a fine, we get stuck with points for THREE YEARS. And a fine. And a telling off. :D

Sparks, if you or wildcard ever waanna meet up for a little play just give me a shout over here through a PM or drop me an email at davidopi666@aol.com
