starting to catch idle
starting to catch idle
OK, im still learning here... I have been clutchin up to bp and beyond and using the brake to slow myself down so I can roll at idle. I can't seem to let idle catch me though. Im clutchin it up and leaning back pretty far( because I usteo lean forward like most people do when they start) so I'm leaning back pretty far and once I get to ballance point or further back from it. I find that the further far back (with out 12'ing) will allow me to hold idle longer but than the effin motor like bogs down and almost stalls out, at that point I loose too much momentum to keep the ballanced left to right and i go down forward.
Should I clutch up and move my body position to more forward/ upright?
I have not done the 2nd idle cable mod yet on my f4i ( should be here in a day or two) and I have not done the tip over sensor thing yet. ( again I will do this prolly tonight) People tell me that thoes two things will be enough for me to catch idle long enough to get better at it...
What do you think is my problem? has anyone ever experienced this when learning?

Re: starting to catch idle
no, it's not too much brake, its that u're k eeping it too far back, you need to learn the sweet spot, where your motor stays constant, if it starts to drop rpms, u're too far back, if it starts to gain rpms u're too far forward... you have your idle to like 3500 right
Re: starting to catch idle
yea dead stop, or like 1 mph.. what ever... i try to keep my leg straight but what does this help ya do? just put all your weight on the rear of the bike more?
Re: starting to catch idle
sounds good, I guess I just need more practice. I try to hit the local lot at least a hr or so a night. most of the more experenced stunters in my area(www.section518.com) don't practice much so I have to be by myself in the lot... sort of sucks because no one can give me pointers wile in the lot or anything. plus cops come if more than a few people ride there... **** Upstate New York...
Re: starting to catch idle
yea im at the same place you are, im hitting the rear brake too hard which makes me inconsistant on the idle. the key is to keep it at that spot right behind the bp and tap it quickly and lightly.
just gotta keep practicing.
just gotta keep practicing.

Yea, I get that too, sometimes I clutch too hard and hit the brake too hard and that is just as bad as not clutchin up high enough and trying to chase the BP, only to finaly hit it at like 10,000 rpm's...
Thanks everyone for their input! I have one of my friends comin to the lot with me this weekend with a video camra and I'll post up what we get.
Re: starting to catch idle
i can go slow. never dedicated real time to catching the idle. crtch will flame me for it....and having no subframe. but I can go slower than idle with sitdowns,ss and spreaders. working on hc now.
just let the bike to the work. I know you'll start to "feel it" soon.

Re: starting to catch idle
Im at the same pnt and actually Crtch was giving me pointers in another thread. Are you doing these standing or sitting? I am standing, trying to get the ***** to do sit down, it just doesnt feel right to me, brake control that is. As for the riding alone, i have the same prob too!! I will get some vid this weekend and post up as well. We'll get it!!! I wont stop till i do!!!
Re: starting to catch idle
standups, sitdowns just feel weird and i'm way to wobbly to try them slow. I can usualy find bp in the higher rps with sitdowns but takes me a wile to get it.
