I guess I need to grow some balls!!
I guess I need to grow some *****!!
Alright, I have been trying standups the last couple of days and cant seem to keep the damn thing up. I know what to do, I just cant seem to follow through with it. Do most of you get the bike high enough just from clutching it up or do most of you just get the wheel off the ground with the clutch and then throttle it the rest of the way?
Once it starts getting high, I start to squat and let off the throttle. So, my question is... Did any of you guys have a problem getting over this hump and how did you finally stay with it and let it come all the way up and stand up with it?
Do I just need to pull my skirt up and say **** it, and stay in the throttle?

Im having that same problem too and would like some insight on this too...IMO I think half of stunting involves skill and the other half involves the ***** to do it.

Yes, it's *****... but the more you practice, the more ***** you'll get... take small steps. Find a safe spot and practice as much as you can.
Re: I guess I need to grow some *****!!
hmm...sounds like you guys need to go out and practice using different rpms to bring it up higher and higher until your pretty close or right at balance point when you drop the clutch..
Re: I guess I need to grow some *****!!
i got a 250 ninja and i can clutch it up or throtel man ppl told me it can be done cuzz the bike is little but you can do anything with enouph practice. clutching it is easyer and more dependable.
Re: I guess I need to grow some *****!!
A long time ago when I first starte doing stand ups, I would clutch it up while sitting down and as soon as I got the bike about 10:00 I would stand up. You kinda pull on the bars as you stand up and don't really need any more gas than it took at 10:00.
Try to keep the tank cap clost to your nutts.

one way i learned how to do a stand up on my little bike was to stand on the passanger pegs that way i could see were i was going and the bike would 12 and level itself out better and u will feel more in control of the bike that way makes u feel like it isnt as far to fall over when u loop it.lol
Re: I guess I need to grow some *****!!
I went out today and made a 100% improvement. I am still not really close to BP, but I was starting to ride a couple of them out and I am starting to get more consistent clutching it up. Thanks for the tips, I think I am getting close to getting it done.
Re: I guess I need to grow some *****!!
the more you practice the more comfortable you will get doing it. the more comfortable you get the better your riding will be. The moral of the story is practice to get better!
there are NO SHORT CUTS!!!!!!!!!!!

i do the same thing i get it up 1st gear and cant hold it. it will not come up in 2nd...i su9k at stunting but im trying ....i think it b/c im scared of going back to far.....and in 2nd dont know when to hit the clutch and when i do hit the clutch i miss the power band...but like i was saying i trying
Re: I guess I need to grow some *****!!
Goddamn, today was even better. I got to the point where I can get it up almost everytime and ride it to redline. I still have some work to do, but it feels great to make progress.
Derrick---just keep practicing with that clutch and you will get it trust me. It takes a good bit of throttle in 2nd with a clutch dump, which takes getiing usd to. I have practiced standups for three dyas this week---about 1 hour per session and each time was a 200% improvement from the time before.
You might not believe it now, but each time you try you are getting closer and closer so just keep pounding away and you will get it, I promise.

lol I'm having the same problem with my 636...I can clutch it, but it just bounces up and then falls down right away. I'm thinking about a foot of lift? I'm doing it around 50km/h in first gear, no idea what that is rpm-wise. for clutching which gear is easiest to use? Whats a good rpm typically in first to slip the clutch at?
Re: I guess I need to grow some *****!!
Damn, this is an old post, LOL. I can do em at balance point now, I just need to start using the rear brake....
SHFT600.... I see you have an 05 636.. I have been doing my standups on my 03. There is a huge difference between the two. Like I said above, I can do BP wheelies on my 03, but I tried some on my 05 the other day and it takes a lot of throttle to snap it up...My only theory is that the 05 clutch is so tight that it does not slip at all and the 03 clutch slips a little to let the revs build even after popping the clutch.
So, if I were you, I would go about 55 mph in 2nd and pull the clutch in, rev it up and dump the clutch all in one quick motion. Start with a little bit of throttle and work your way up until you are comfrtable. And, if you can, cover the rear brake. I know a lot of people will tell you to learn in 1st, but that just caused me to loop my 05 last year, but do what works best for you. Good luck.
