If you want the best go with springfield. Very durable and easier to find springfield parts.

Re: 1911 looking to buy! Advice on what you have

I really like my Kimber Custom Covert II. It has never given me a problem. My friends dad is the owner of STI and I grew up shooting STI pistols. If you have the money the STI's are sickest 1911 in my opinion.

Colt all the way, if not a CZ Wesson or Kimber. Sprinfield frames are wack for a beavertail and built as well sorry but that is the truth!!!!

Re: 1911 looking to buy! Advice on what you have

Sloppy? I have 2 Colts and a DW and have fired thousands of rounds threw them with no issues other then the normal 1911 recoil spring issues which is there on all makes due to the design. As for price, I can speak for Michigan they are right at the same price range as most of the better 1911 manufactures like Kimber and CZ. Dont want to start a back and forth war over who is better but as for the build quality of a Colt compared to a springfield (Keeping the pistol to original specs) I would stick with a colt.

Re: 1911 looking to buy! Advice on what you have

yeah Im no gun expert ... just got to shoot & check out kimbers, colts & springfields .. before I bought my own ....

no mods to my springfield ! & iv put about 600 rnds through it with out any problems ....

for some reson the feel of a gun is everything to me .. if I can pick it up , shake it & feel just about all the parts slap around then that screams P.O.S to me .. lol both the kinber & the colts were like that .... every model I looked @ .. but the sprinfield just felt solid !! like I could use it as a club & it would still work ...lol

I hear ya on that Johnny, all I know is just about any well known manufacturer and the 1911 is a good gun. Design is flawless!! So with that said i think its personal preference on what ya buy in this model!!
