make your own cage
Re: make your own cage
I made the one on my R1 but believe me unless ya have loads of spare time just buy one. Your right its not rocket science to make but they do take time and we have tube benders and notchers here so its easy for us. They would be worth making if ya had to make a batch but it takes time to set the tube bender etc for each bend if ya making just one.
On my 636s tee rex, toddy and me just ordered them from hai.
Trust me there is more work in making them than you think.

Re: make your own cage
Yeah, I id expected it would be better to buy one, for many reasons.
Watching Biker Build-off gets me all excited and sit on the settee day dreaming about fabricating bespoke parts
So i surpose you could do it if you wanted to, but youd rather be practicing :YEAH

Re: make your own cage
We made one for my boyz gsxr one time and the **** didnt hold worth a **** after about 4-5 hard drops.... Believe me its easier and alot less painful to just go with a pre-fab....TRUST Unless you got lots of each free time and mad welding skills and **** load of metal fabs tools......GOOD LUCK
Re: make your own cage
As vandal said its hard and you will not have a proven design which may cause problems later.
Any way there will be a supplier of cages in the UK soon so get the overtime in:YEAH
No more 6 to 8 weeks later

Re: make your own cage
I made my own cage as my bike was an old nail 1989 CBR600 and I couldn't find one. It was a right pain in the **** to be honest, Its not that hard to do but like people are saying it takes time. You only find out where the weak points are when you crash too breaking welds and bending things.
