Question just installed a twist throttle on 400ex

just got a 2002 Honda 400ex and switched from thumb to twist throttle but the idle seems a bit off Seems to idle high, and when I turn the throttle, the throttle itself snaps back but it soundslike it's still reving? What should I adjust? Also, the header pipes get soooo hot they glow...wtf? Any help is appreciated

One more thing, when I turn the choke lever up(the direction the arrow is pointing), the quad shuts down???...need help

1st answer... turn the idle screw by your left leg cointerclockwise once the quad is up to operating temperature (its a silver round thingright by the yellow choke lever)

2nd answer .. only use the choke to start the quad.. i personally run my on full choke(all the way forward) for 5 seconds tops , then 1 click down for another 5 the off completey and just let it warm up

3rd... go bust out some ****

yeah running the choke at operating temperature will make the bike kill, don't do that, too much gas

When you installed the twist throttle.... did you install a 4-stroke set-up? I know... dumb question... but I've seen worse. Make sure you have both cables adjusted properly... one may be getting hung up causing it to rev after you've let off the twist grip.

it not a dumb question at all, I'm green to the quad scene(I know...you're a poet and...) so how would I know if it's a 4-stroke set-up as opposed to a 2-stroke?

Okay... I think I may have F'ed up. The 400EX only has one cable. Most traditional 4-strokes use a two cable set-up.... one pulling... one pushing. I've been working on an XR lately that has two, so sorry about the mix up.

Anyway... back to the topic.... Did you install a new cable? It seems that if the machine continues to rev after you've let off, that you may have a kink in the cable or it's hung up in the sleeve somewhere. Try lubing the cable at either end of the sleeve... twist the grip a couple times and repeat the process a couple times.

Also check the tension on the cable... you don't want any slop. Tighten it up just to the point of full tension. Good luck!
