is a 96 blaster any good?

My friend just got a 96 yamaha blaster for $250. It still has the factory tires and it only has one scratch on the front. the only thing wrong is the caubuerator needs cleaned from sitting to long. my ? is what problems do blasters normally have and what stuff is best for them that's cheap? We both have streetbikes and now we can play on the quad to. hopefully we can bust out a few moves. I also heard that the brakes are shitty on them, i know that it has disc brakes but that's it. What can be done to improve? new to the quad scene so any info would be great. thanks

Yeah the brakes on pre 2003 blaster's suck. They are a mechanical drum in the front, and mechanical disk in the rear. In 2003 they got updated to the hydraulic disc front and rear. I had NO problems stopping when I had my 03 blaster. I guess the old brake setup worked well when it was working, but brake shoes wore very quickly and needed to be adjusted constantly.

I would upgrade your brakes first!

Good Luck!

i might be wrong but what bill is saying about the 2003 model is cause they have the same rear break setup as a raptor...so i think you might be able to just get a raptor rear break setup and throw that on.....but im not sure if it is 100% the same.....
