gearing
I`m just starting to stunt a big DS 650, should I change the gearing? I`m piped and jetted and went to 22 inch tires instead of the stock 20`s. Also does anybody know of a good tire for doing burnouts and doughnuts, I want a tire that will really smoke.
Pump a set of stock tires way up. That's the best for quad burnouts.
Stock gearing on any quad is more than enough for stunting, especially with an exhaust. If you really want, try 1 down in the front, and 2 or 3 up in the rear. This will give you more acceleration (and torque to the wheels) but less top speed. Works just like a bicycle.

I haven't noticed much difference, but supposedly the bigger tire you have in the back the less acceleration / more top speed you have. So, it would seem that staying with a smaller tire would be better.

I was thinking with taller tire maybe I should go smaller on the front gear. The quad has plenty of power I`ve used the smaller gear on the front at the dunes but never on the street, I thought maybe for the slower wheelies and stunts the smaller gear might also be better than the stock one. A DS isn`t as snappy as a 400 EX either so slow tricks can be hard

well having rode a ds650 baja almost weekly lately, I will say this. this is all my opinion and what I have experienced.
They have plenty of low to top end power. You can do some great slow stuntin on them. And they are actually alot more "snappier" then a 400ex. Reason is that they have "fuel injection" and 400's are carb'd.
Now the one reason you may not be able to wheely it or endo it, is because it has soo much travel in the shocks. Set it up stiff, that may help you out some.
I can hook it up completely stock on pavement and pull wheelies. Im not sure why you would have to gear it if its piped and stuff. Try letting some air out of your tires, that will give you a wider footprint, hence more traction to hookup. If you gear down, which is the other thing I would reccomend, go one tooth in the front, then try 2. front sprockets are alot cheaper then rear sprockets. Also 1 tooth in the front is the same as 3 in the rear.
If you have any questions, just ask.
O and for smoke, pour some bleach on the ground and spin your tires in that. Tell me if it smokes enough for ya...
