300ex dumps out fuel when wheeling

JUst picked the bike up as a toy when I want to have a little fun. It is all stock and in mint condition. when I wheelie it it dumps out fuel from the hose on the bottem of the carb. I know there is supposed to be an overflow but this bike pisses out gas that leaves a trail down the street when Im wheeling. Ive had lots of quads before and never had this problem. Took the carb apart cleaned it and still leaks like crazy when I pop it up. the float seems ok. Any ideas????????????? Thanks

Re: 300ex dumps out fuel when wheeling

the quick version is there is prbably a little tab that closes your needle and seatwhen the float goes up, just bend it a little so it closes the needle and seat sooner...

thanks for the help. Is that whats on the other end of the little metal piston that connects to the plastic float? the part i bend is on the bottem by the float or on the other side? Im kinda lost

Re: 300ex dumps out fuel when wheeling

I know what ur talkin about. its kinda like a square tab on the neddle thet goes in when the float goes up. ok, i need to bend it so the float comes tighter to the carb? when the float goes up the needle has to come out more or less? bend it up like towards the floor or seat? and thanks again, ur the man

Re: 300ex dumps out fuel when wheeling

when the float goes up it closes the needle and seat and that stops the gas from going into the bowl of the carb your objective is to stop the gas sooner....

Re: 300ex dumps out fuel when wheeling

I worked on it today and still same ****. I bent the little square tab on the needle so when the float it about to hit the top of the carb the needle is all the way down. I took all the play out of the needle and the float. but on a wheelie it still spills out? I could bend it more but I dont know if I should. It closes almost before the float is all the way up. I assume thats as much as I can get out of it

Re: 300ex dumps out fuel when wheeling

do you think the float valve went bad. Yhe needle thats on the float? I would think if it was bad gas would spill out all the time. should I replace it???????????

sounds like you bent it the wrong way....slightly bent the tab towards the needle, this will make it seat (stop the flow of gas) sooner

Re: 300ex dumps out fuel when wheeling

Its hard to explain but the way I bent it makes the needle push all the way into the carb sooner, or about when the float rises all the way up to its stoping point. when the needle is pushed in the carb the float is almost all the way up. just needs that little extra forec to get it to stop on the top of the carb..... Sound ok?

Re: 300ex dumps out fuel when wheeling

nope i think you raised your float level and you needed to lower it....you wan the needle to be all the way in way before the float is to the top....

Re: 300ex dumps out fuel when wheeling

heres the deal ,when the bowl fills up with gas it makes the float rise and that closes the needle and seat wich stops more gas from entering the bowl ..

if you lower your float level it will allow less gas to enter the bowl wich should make it so the gas doesn't leak out while you are doing a wheelie

Re: 300ex dumps out fuel when wheeling

your float shouldnt get that close to the top of the carb before it shuts the needle valve.....look in the manual, it will give you a float height in mm. if you plan on riding wheelies alot you may want to increase the float height measurement by a couple...say if its 100 make it 102/103...alot of bikes with the proper factory setting will still spew gas during a wheelie.....due to wear characteristics your float level will gradually rise, much like valves in a motor....as they wear the clearance always tightens.

he does not want to raise his float level he needs to lower it.

the lower the float sits in the bowl while holding the needle and seet closed the less gas will be in the bowl and the less gas will spill out.
