I was thinking of changing the gearing on my KFX40. I was thinking of going one tooth bigger in the rear. I am hoping to get a little more low end torque from it. I was just wondering what you guys are using and how you like it. Thanks in advance!!!

Man you shouldn't realy have to mess with changing sprockets on the quad

all depends on the purpose...

stock gearing will be fine especially if it's your first quad

 

1 down 20 up

keep it stock just put a pipe on it for the power,it helps

 

Keep it stock!!! I have a modded 400ex- bored, race cams, procircuit full system, jetted ect...ect... and it suxx for slow stuff... I ride my wife's stock 400ex all the time, my modded one useually sits there...

 

I went stock front sprocket and one up in the back, I already had the old pipe/jets/filter mods done, didn't make that much of a diff. @ all.

 

Same here, just traded my moded ex and kept the stock one. Like how smooth the throuttle is on it

 

I run a pipe and airfilter with stock sprockets. I pull 3rd sitting wheelies and 4th standing with no problems. I have a set of sprokets in boxes still 1 down in the front and plus 5 in the rear I think. Got them to helop with highchairs but after some seat time getting better and not needing them.

 

i run stock gearing and 18" rear tires, vs the stock 20" ers... quad will hit rev limiter in 5th going down the road... but top speed is only 50ish... i would run stock stock stock.. as soon as i have some extra cash, i wanna buy a set of 20"s for it... i hate the low gearing i have now because of the tire size...

 

Get 20" rims!

 

1 tooth in the front is=to 3 in the back. if i was going to do anything id go 1 down up front so youll have a slower 1st gear. i liked my stock z 400 for stunten better than i liked my dads kfx 400 w/ Curtis Sparks pipe pro design intake and its rejeted. and yes pulling wheelies in 5 wasnt ever a problem on the stock z. I now have a 06 yfz and its not very cumffy to stunt on lol and when mine was in the shop i broke the frame up front on the z above the shock mounts...lol its my moms now......
