z400 wheelie

ok i can ride a wheelie pretty far and slow on my z400....sometimes I go to far over and fall on my *** and I try so hard to hit the back break before i go over but I do not push it hard enough or just can not get to it quick enough. Also when I try to ride a fast wheelie I can not even raise my foot to shift...it feel so unatural like i have 300 pounds on my foot and can not lift it up..does anybody have any opinions or help on any of these 2 problems...thanks in advance.

if you're trying to shift under acceleration, it's not going to like it, especially on the back tires. That's the art of shifting on the back tires, being able to back out enough to shift, and pull the wheelie back up without losing it.

To use the brakes to control wheelies, you should pull the wheelie with the brakes already engaged. Lightly press on the brake, enough to feel it drag a little, and hold your foot there, stand the wheelie up fast, and steady, keeping the throttle in the same position. modulate the brake pedal lightly until you get the feel for what it's going to do.

If its that unnatural for you then maybe you should stick to 4 wheels on the ground

stabdups feel completly normal for me...sitdowns can start to feel weird at some points.....its the whole fact of lifting my foot up to change gears or pushing my foot down to hit the breaks...thats where i lack.

it's that whole coordination thing. You'll get the hang of it, takes practice. (I grew up on quads, so I honestly do not understand or feel your pain, but it SEEMS as if....)

Practice, Practice, Practice. The rear brake is the best thing you'll ever use when stuntin.

Shifting and braking is always easier sitting down.

As the others said, you just have to practice. Just do a wheelie and nail the breaks...keep doing it over and over and you'll get the hang of it...don't forget about the clutch.

Shifting is easy once you get the technique too. Bring the quad to the balance point and just a little more, clutch it and shift, slip the clutch back out to get it back up in the air. Just gotta feel it.

well I am getting the break part down. i can actually hit the break before it tips over and give it throttle again before the front wheels come all the way down. alot of times I stall it and it just falls back down but sometimes I can just keep it such a slow rpm you can not even here it running if you guys know what i mean. as for shifting every 1 in 8 times i do it I can get it to shift to 2nd but I can not keep the wheels up it just falls down....anyway thanks for everyone help and advice.

dont use the clutch when you shift....just gas it nice and tall, let off the gas, slam the next gear, slam the gas......always cover the break but if you dont there is no reason to fall on your ***....thats what that bar is for just hold on to the bike, gain your marbles back and hit the brake

Re: z400 wheelie

And dont use clutch to shift when you are up in a wheelie just let the throttle of and pop it in gear quick the give it gas again. It is eaisiest if you start in 2nd gear and go from there.
