need to trouble shoot

Friend has a 2004 Honda TRX450 that he bought new in the winter. This weekend when he went riding it would start and idle fine but when he to about 1/2 throttle it would kill if didn't let off, then he'd stop and it would idle just fine. Do you think it's the float sticking? That's my only thought.

Re: need to trouble shoot

Souns like carb. prob.
lots of times when the float sticks it strait pee's gas.
remove and clean that sucka. if you let it sit for any leanth of time a small amount of gas goes bad FAST and forms a film inside the carb.
Good luck wit it.

Ussually they only **** it the floats stuck all the way open. this sounds like it isn't opening all the way to fill the bowl.
If ya got some cash buy a race carb. Cause if your having problems with the carb already chances are fixing it will just leed to another, plus more power= more fun.

Re: need to trouble shoot

is the choke on by any chance?
just a stab in the dark... most of the time it will idle like shiot if the choke is on, but if it is only half way, it might still idle...
or the air box tube isnt clogged by some ambitious chipmunk is it?
I would verify the choke is off, check the box and breather tube to make sure it is free of water and blockage, and go from there...
keep us posted...
o, and p.s... its not like the rev limiter thing my z has when its in rever--....wait, nevermind... those dont have reverse, do they? I'm a dummy...
If anyone needs me, ill be ....

Re: need to trouble shoot

Nope, i'll tell you exactly what it is...common problem man. Just take the float bowl off the bottom and you main jet has a piece of grass, a rock, or something else blocking it. Just clean it out and that's it. So just clean the main jet and the tube too.
Happens to me and my friends all the time, no biggie.
