I had a sport trac, the beds def suck... you have to angle the bike just to make it fit with the tail gate down, and you still had maybe an inch and half between the end of the tail gate and the rear tire.... not to mention the pos 4.0 they put in that heavy son a bitch was a turd....

My F150 could close the tailgate on my 929 with it mounted straight but just barely. If you're willing to put the bike on an angle, you can close the tailgate on anything that's not a crew cab (1/2 ton or smaller).
I see. Bike will prolly be an F4i or 636. I could measure my 636 and see what it is...

I've been looking at a Nissan frontier. What's your guy's opinions? Keep in mind I do not want a big truck. I live in the city and it would be to impractical. As small as I can get while still getting a bike to fit. An el camino had crossed my mind, lol.

A frontier tailgate will not close on a bike unless it's turned on an angle.

A new F150 short bed is 78.8 inches. I imagine the other brands are similar.

i know a couple guys who have 4 door frontiers and love them. the only complaint ive heard is that they have an unusually poor turning radius. gil is one of the guys, you can hit him up for more info if you want. oh, he hauls bikes with the tailgate down, one or two.

neals f150 has a couple inches to spare with the tailgate up. trix's dodge half ton appears to be about an inch longer, unless his bike is shorter. john legion once told us he can close the tailgate on his chevy short bed with bikes in straight

Re: Track riding

You know Pete, as long as its not supported by a rusty cable, theres nothing wrong with having the back tires on the tailgate. its pretty common to do

Thanks dudes. According to my buddy who works at Nissan, the frontier comes in 4,6, and 8 foot beds. Sounds like the 6 will work just fine. Mike, who is Gil again?

That sounds like what I will do. I wasn't sure on what I would need, as far as bed sizes. I'll prolly cart around an xr100 for a little while. Get back in the seat before getting another stuntbike.

I can close the bed on 3 bikes in my short bed crew cab.

With the F4i I had no problem closing the bed but with the 636 it's a tight fit if I put it straight in. I got a 6.5 foot bed too. If I put the bike all the way in and then turn the front wheel it usually gives me the extra inch or two I need to be able to close the bed w/o slamming it and forcing it shut. Gil is skillz on here. And didnt you get at me a few years back Pete about me parking my bike on the 12 bar saying my pic was fake lmao.

That's why it says 1/2 ton and smaller. 3/4 ton is the smallest crew cab you can get with a 6.5 foot bed. That's if you don't count the Chevy 1500HD which isn't made anymore.

The frontier does not come with an 8' bed. It comes with a 6' bed in the king cab and a 5' bed with the crew cab. The 6' bed is not long enough to close the tailgate on a bike loaded straight in.
