get a voltmeter and the wiring diagram out - test backwords from the fuel pump for power until you find were it is lost

 

pretty much.

 

Even the computer guy knows how to diagnose electrical gemlins.

 

dude today is not the day...i have ben over everything 3 times

 

got a volt meter yesteday and i lose power somewhere between the pump plug and the radiator fan

 

I'm guessing those two aren't in the same circuit.

 

You want to check the easy spots first.

1. Fuel Pump fuse
2. Fuel Pump Relay In
3. Fuel Pump Relay Out

If you get it at the relay on both posts then there is a short between the relay and the pump. Trace that wire.

 

So you know the general area of the problem...... Am I missing something here? Go figure out exactly where it loses power, why, and fix it.

how do i check the in and out?

 

The key/switch/ whatever operates the low side. Check for voltage at the relay in and relay out. If you have power there, and the pump works, there is a short between the relay and the pump.

 

Time to raid the vending machine.

 

I don't mean if the fuse is good. Make sure there is power at the fuse. Then make sure there is power at the relay. Then make sure there is power coming out of the relay.

That relay should have four posts. One is the power feed, one is the trigger power, one is ground, and one where the power goes out. There should always be power at the feed. When power is put to the trigger it connects the feed to the outlet. There should be a diagram printed on the relay somwhere that tells which post is which.

 

well how do i do that? cut off the black sheathing and look at the wires?

The volt meter came with needle sharp probes for a reason.

 

and also when testing **** like taht do i put the negative probe from the meter to the neg on the batt?
