Re: Fast posting thread
NINER !! we have a mechanical engineering question ??????????????????
will the diameter of a 1/4 inch hole in a 1 foot by 1 foot square block of aluminum get larger or smaller when the whole block is heated ?
i have heated a bearing race to expand the inner diameter so it would slide on a shaft easier but would the ratio of the hole compared to the total amount of material make a difference ?
i guess what im trying to find out is would a 6 inch hole act the same as a 1/4 inch hole in the same 1 foot by 1 foot square block of aluminum when heated ?

Thermal expansion : expanding holes
Consider a donut, a flat, two-dimensional donut, just to make things a little easier. The donut has a hole, with radius r, and an outer radius R. It has a width w which is simply w = R - r.
What happens when the donut is heated? It expands, but what happens to the hole? Does it get larger or smaller? If you apply the thermal expansion equation to all three lengths in this problem, do you get consistent results? The three lengths would change as follows:
The final width should also be equal to the difference between the outer and inner radii. This gives:
This is exactly what we got by applying the linear thermal expansion equation to the width of the donut above. So, with something like a donut, an increase in temperature causes the width to increase, the outer radius to increase, and the inner radius to increase, with all dimensions obeying linear thermal expansion. The hole expands just as if it's made as the same material as the hole.

thank you ..
by the way before you replied i actually did a little science experiment ..lol
i poked a hole in a dry piece of bread with a straw and then soaked the bread to get it to swell , the hole in the bread did in fact expand ...lol

Re: Fast posting thread
i dont know if ive mentioned this yet, but like in vegas, dont bother upgrading the lower level properties in italy. save it for the football stadium where an upgrade will get you an additional L$ 20k every 18 hours.
The exception to this - if youre a fighter, upgrading the port will let you access items with real good att/def numbers.

Scoot, **** buying a replacement insulator, I'm taking that bitch off. It doesn't do **** other then block airflow.

This means that my 10 second or so fast spin when I try to start up the truck is due to a low HPOP reservoir oil level. Looks like I still have more work to do with the gallon of oil and the syringe.
