Semi work safe
Re: Semi work safe
I'd bet the vehicle body harness power wire isn't hooked up. The entire truck would be dead and it wouldn't matter if there was large gauge power to the starter because the ignition switch activates the solenoid (relay).
Re: Semi work safe
There's no main fuse. They'd all have to be bad for your symptoms. Your new power wires, do they just run from the alt to the batteries and to the starter solenoid? Like Niner said, there has to be a connection to rest of the truck somewhere.
Re: Semi work safe
The door chime and dome lights draw such little current that even if he fucked it up pretty bad all that stuff would still work.
Completely dead=the body harness wire wasn't hooked up. You know that there is more to hook up to the battery than the starter and the ground right? The wires hook up to the passenger battery.

Re: Semi work safe
The only good info I have gotten from that site is the writeups on ball joints and wheel bearings and where to buy parts. As far as trouble shooting, there are a lot of guys on there who don't know **** but think they do.
This problem started with new power cables.

Re: Semi work safe
Didn't touch any power wires to the alt
Re: Semi work safe
I ran the positive cable first, hooked both wires up at the starter, then ran it up and hooked up the prong looking connector for the starter solenoid relay on the fenderwell then hooked up that battery (main) then ran it across and hooked up the secondary battery. Then hooked up the two grounds.

Re: Semi work safe
did you get a heavy duty alternator that required a different plug ? just asking because if you switch the field wire you could run in to problems like this
Re: Semi work safe
There is a connector for a couple of small gauge wires and one large gauge wire. No idea where they go in they system, but the alternator isn't the issue if the truck won't even get power tot the radio. My alternator is in Tennesee and I can still use the key fob to unlock my doors and listen to the radio.
