what kind of range can i expect? the surface of my pool is less than 10 feet from my window

 

eh maybe if you open the window and reach out a little actually i think i have seen a good one read from about that far

 

From what I've read, the range is real good but the area that the measurement covers expands greatly. You'll get an average of the area measured. You can't go through glass or anything either. It just measures the IR radiation of an object.

D/S Ratio- Distance to Spot ratio refers to a very important feature of your infrared thermometer. This ratio is the size of the area being evaluated by the infrared thermometer as it relates to distance. In other words, the area being measured becomes larger as the distance increases. This has a profound impact on the accuracy or precision of the reading. If the target you are measuring is 6 inches in size, and your infrared thermometer has a D/S ratio of 8:1, than the maximum distance you can reliably measure the temperature of the target is 48 inches. Beyond this distance, not only is the target being measured, but whatever else falls within the "spot" is being measured as well. This means that if a very hot object is the target, and it is in cooler surroundings, than measurements taken beyond the maximum distance will include cooler elements, and lowering the "average" of what is in the "spot".

D/S Ratio X Target Size, or 8:1 X 6 = maximum measure distance of 48 inches.

As the target size decreases, or the distance to the target increases, a larger D/S Ratio becomes necessary. Using the same example above, and changing first the target size, and then the D/S ratio, you can see that this formula helps you decide the correct D/S ratio and therefore the Infrared Thermometer for your needs.

D/S Ratio X Target Size, or 8:1 X 2 = maximum measure distance of 16 inches.

D/S Ratio X Target Size, or 12:1 X 2 = maximum measure distance of 24 inches.

D/S Ratios vary greatly, so carefully compare this feature of IR Thermometers when comparison shopping. This ratio, and temperature range are the two biggest factors to consider when shopping for an Infrared Thermometer!

I just installed the "dislike button" addon for firefox. So now i have a dislike button on facebook, but it doesnt do anything. I really dislike buttons that dont do anything

 

i dont know why but i pictured you pushing a button saying what the hell does this button do ? and mean while your garage door is opening and closing on the hood of your car

i know it was out of left field but it was an image that just popped into my head , maybe an old comercial or some thing

im definitely one of those guys who pushes every unlabeled button wherever i go.

 

at my parents house there are 8, yes 8 light switches that dont 'seem' to do anything. All different parts of the house, all outlets have been tested, etc.

In my house im not sure we even have 8 light switches total.

 

I have a light switch in my office at home that doesn't do anything. I haven't pulled the face plate to see if it's hooked up but I can't imagine what it's hooked up to.

My old house had 2. One we traced to the back corner of the house, were it looks like someone was gonna install a backyard light but never did. The line was hooked up at the box, and capped at the end by the backyard. The second one was in the main bathroom and wasnt hot.

When I sell my house I want to install a switch somewhere, unwired, and stuff a $20 behind the switch. So if one day someone gets curious enough, they'll get a reward lol.
