Is it worth it?

I bought a 91 Z50 last summer for $400. I heart my Z even though everybody with newer shinier fiddys make fun of me when I ride past them or park next to them. I feel like I've put a lot of money into this thing already, I guess I'm basing that off what I paid for it though. $175 for new plastics with the Fast 50 sticker kit and seat cover (not a bad deal, got it off e-bay), $50 for a new hub (also from e-bay) and new street tires and tubes for $50. so now the thing has cost me $675, still not bad, it runs a **** load better now than last year. So here's my dilemma. I ordered $75 of parts yesterday to rebuild the forks, and I'm looking at spending another $500 on better fork springs, new sprockets (front and rear), a new chain, and the Fast 50 big bar set up. Is it really all worth it to put $1250 dollars into a Z50? I know this won't be the end either. Next I'm going to want to put in a big bore kit or dress up the engine! I think I'm becoming obsessed! So, yes buy the parts and hook it up or No, are you crazy? You're wasting you money!

Re: Is it worth it?

Well you have to consider, if you sell it now take what you can get will you have enough to buy a newer 50? If not can you go with out for a while while you gather cash. Also will you be able to ride a stock 50 for a while if you dont have the cash to dump into it. And are there any advantages to you buying the new 50, if you only ride it and dont stunt much etc, then it might be worth keeping 4 u.

Well, you can finance a new 50 for like $39 a month...and you can't get much cooler than Judds Z anyways..you know it has that aftermarket sounding rattle....so I say give it up and get a new one.

Thats what I am saying, you will have to add all the new expense to the new price of a 50. And when I financed mine I added big barkit at the dealer but they would only go 12 months and the payment was 130 a month. Paid it off early with no penalties though...

Re: Is it worth it?

I don't want to finace a new 50. I already have a 50. If I'm being leary about spending $500 why would I go out and spend $2000?

a 50 is not 2000,

Buy new, 1200 + 150 for bars + 30 for tires = 1380

Buy used, 800, prolly already has bars and tires

I love the Z's, and I know you love yours too. If you think it is worth putting the money into it... Do it. Who cares what everyone else thinks about it. If you dont think it is worth it, (which being hesitant to put money in the Z tells you something) then go for a used XR for 700- 800 bucks. Sell the Z and use the money for an XR.

1st ? Where are you buying your parts? You are paying way to much!!!!!!!! 2nd do you really need a big bar kit? Because that is the only thing that is going to cost you some money. Everything else would cost a total of under $100 and when you say rebuild your forks? What are you rebuliding? Are they bent, cracked and you really dont need fork springs inless your doing some sweet jumps. But, what you really need to do is do what you want. If you like the bike and are worried about what other people think fawk'm!!!!!!!! Be a leader not a follower!!!!!!!! Leasnit always told me that Why else would he play with glow sticks. Now one else does and he don't care! :YEAH
