Dilemma
So here is my dilemma, if I am wrong I wanna know what you guys think. I have been working out at this gym in Dexter Michigan for 10 years on and off. When I am into working out this is the place I go. I know the owner personally. So my membership was up the 1st of the month. I haven't been in there since. I went there today thinking I would ask him if I could work out until a week from this Friday 7 days, at that point I would pay for that week and what ever membership I decide to pick. They said no, I can't workout until I pay. Mind you this was my 1st trip in there not being up to date.
I will never step foot into anything they own again and I feel they were wrong for not working with a customer. Deferred payment for 7DAYS. Is that asking too much?
What do you guys think??

Re: Dilemma
The owner told you this?
I guess it all depends on his clientel... maybe there are tons of other people that have been there for years also. Looking at a business owners aspect, I look at it well I do that for you, I have to do that for everyone. Thats when problems can occur. I am sure it was not directed towards you personally

Right I agree about looking at it as if it was my gym. But man if you don't work with your customers soon they won't be your's anymore. I just don't see the $$$ loss if I skip out in a week. But lossing someone who is a paying customer is pretty pricey.
I'm not trying to flame you. I just think it's crazy there not willing to help. I wanna really feel there reasoning. I just don't see it.

Here is my letter to them.
To Whom It May Concern:
This letter is to let you know my feelings about the phone call Marvin and myself had on April 5th 2005.
I have been a long time patron of your gym. I may not workout fulltime however when I am working out I liked to call this gym home. With this comes a sense of pride with my surroundings and my involvement with them. With that said I am concerned about my appearance, the equipment I use and how I treat the above. I am a good addition to most any social event and a responsible patron of your gym.
The phone call addressed 2 things. A conversation Samantha and myself had on your gym floor, and deferred payment of a membership for a 7-day period.
The first issue was the conversation. Samantha had approached me and brought up the dues that I owe. I had asked her what she had thought about the deferred payment and jokingly I had said I’m sure Champions would extended me the courtesy of a 7 day deferral of payment. She then yelled at me on your gym floor. This was not a conversation she embarrassed me I felt like a child and if you had seen how she had conducted herself you would have been embarrassed that one of your employees acted this way. Kristina, Craig Gallo’s girlfriend was witness to this conversation.
The second being the deferred payment. The conversation made me feel unwelcome at your gym and if that is the case I would not want to disrupt the on goings of your facility. I cannot believe that someone in your position would be unable or unwilling to extend the common customer service as simple as a 7-day deferral of payment. As stated this just makes me feel unwelcome and if your decision was a business one I guess in this case it didn’t work in your favor. Not only did you loss a customer your competition just gained a good patron.
In closing I guess I am very sad that I don’t feel welcome by the owners of this gym. I do understand that it is an added workload to handle situation like this. I recognize that this is an additional cost. The fact that your not willing to do this makes me feel that Matt Schwartz as a customer, is not worth that to you.
Thank you,
Sincerely
Matt Schwartz

Re: Dilemma
I am a buisness owner and I would def. have let you work out. Old buisness is the best buisness. As for the Gym itself, he should have been a good owner and said, "No, I cant let you work out, but here's a free pass that we give to people we have no idea who they are and go work out".. Wonder why he didnt do that? Then he wouldnt have to **** of all the old clients and Schwartz could go on his way. Thats what I would have done. I have been working out at my Gym for about 5 years now, I dont go there B/C they have weights and treadmills, (everybody has that, and he should know that). I go there B/C I know the manager, and all the people that work there...
Just my
I would call and cancel and see what he says then!! I can promise you he would not let you go without a fight. Might even get a free month out of it!

well said!!! it's amazing how these small buisness stay in buisness. It's Penny Wise and Pound Foolish not too keep you for a 7 Day deffered payment option.

Dont get me wrong, I agree with you. I think that was inappropriate. I myself run a business, and we do bend the rules with of our vetran customers, because we know there is money there. I was just trying to shoot something out there of the reasoning why he might have made that descion.
Re: Dilemma
Look at it this way.. It takes a long time to establish a good relationship with your customer. Then again it can take as few as 2 minutes to ruin that said relationship. Even if you didn't join after the week, I'd take my chances. If you have a loyal customer, take care of them.
Oh yea. Thanks again buddy. As soon as I figure out how to change my seals, I'll be rockin out in Kzoo with my ST stickers!

Re: Dilemma
as a business man......... i would have been a lil less likely to extend u a courtesy if i felt u were tryin to slide through without paying until i approached u.......... now had u come to me on the last day of yer mebership i would have been more than willing to extend u for at least a week ...... i have some relaly good customers that have been customers of my fathers business for over 20 years....... that pay over time everytime they use us..... but they always pay everypenny...... and the word of mouth business they bring us more than makes up for the trouble............ that being said....... there is no way in hell any employee would not be held accountable for belittling a customer (even a rude customer .... not saying u were rude just saying in general) especially in front of other customers........ i would never let a customer get away with doin that to an employee so i definatly wouldnt allow an employee to do it to a customer!

The throwing stars are under the right side of the mattress, I guess you can borrow them as long as you get all the DNA off of them when you're done. I hope you get things worked out with them, Maybe that Bit<c></c>ch will get fired. That would rock.
