There's plenty to look out for. Certain paints contain chemicals that breakdown and weaken the composite shell of a helmet making it dangerous to wear. Sanding also contributes to making the shell weaker if you break through the original paint and sand into the actual material. Different helmets are made of different materials, Some are carbon/kevlar/fiberglass blends, etc. Best to find out exactly what your helmet model is made of and consult the paint manufacturer first or you h=could have a false sense of security wearing a weakend lid. Be careful!

NO T.J......I'm sanding down one of MY SPARE's.....or original helmet's.......

gonna design a cool paint scheme and spray it myself.....

it should look sweet......and give me a BETTER LID to work with......

it's an A.G.V......I also have a NICE H.J.C. I need to paint as well......

Don't sand it....just take a scotch bright and scuff it till the shine is gone...you can paint over it that way....but Sonic Jay is right....can ruin a good lid....
