21 Killed in Chicago Night Club Stampede
(2/17/03 - Chicago) — Chicago officials now say 21 people have died as a result of a stampede at a Chicago night club. Fire officials say there were over 1,500 people in the Epitome Night Club when someone sprayed pepper spray or mace into the air after a fight broke out some time after 2 a.m. Police spokesman Ozzie Rodriguez says that led to a rush for an exit.

Many of the victims were trapped in a narrow stairwell that led from the second floor of the two-story club to the street. Fire officials are unsure of the total number of injuries because some were being taken to hospitals by family and friends. Cory Thomas arrived at the club as the tragedy was unfolding. He says he saw patrons jammed against a glass front door. He also says he saw firefighters break through a locked side door so that people could escape.

why the hell would security guards use pepper spray in a small closed in area with hundreds of people anyways???? how ignorant was that???

 

thats the E2 on the south side of chi-town. the guards there dont use pepper spray. they are sure someone else in there used it and then from there with it being a high alert for terrorists, well people started to panic when they couldnt breath.

From what I've read so far, it all started over a fight. It looks like between two girls, but a fight none-the-less. And the pepper spray was used by someone to break up the fight.

People gotta learn, acting like a dipshit carries consequences. In this case 21 dead. I hope those two morons who were fighting think LONG and hard about this, and anyone else thinking about throwing punches.

 

have you ever been to the clubs? sometimes its inpossible without getting into a fight, even if you dont try... yeah your right 2 girls started to fight but they knew that they couldnt start on them because in the club you ALWAYS come with your back up. so they tried to stop it but it got out of hand. so then when someone sprayed the pepper spray they started to panic and ran for the exits. well when they got to the exits they were locked! WTF??? so now they are pending the lawsuits! there was only 2 exits, one in the front and the other for stars. so that left 21 people dead.

 

The owner of the club is going to get his *** sewed. The Chicago fire masher condemned the building, because it didn't pass fire codes, but the f'in idiot still opened it. This might seem a little sick and I would like to apologize to anyone who lost a love on in the incident...but I saw the picture of those people pinned in the doorway in the paper and for some sick reason I started laughing my *** off. That's sick...

 

That's why I don't go to clubs. Gotta bring a frigging army just to make sure you survive the night. No thanks, doesn't sound like fun to me. I have enough to worry about with the cops and idiot cagers on the road. Don't need any more drama.

 

From what I read, they said that security guards did use pepper spray to stop the fight. The guards weren't the club's guards, but they club had a private party and private party brought their own guards and they are the ones that used pepper spray. That is what I read.
