Re: The bullshit thread.
Watch what you eat and ride your mountain bike. Oh and quit drinking beer all the time. I feel so much better and have lost 15 pounds since I started riding my mountain bike all the time.
Re: The bullshit thread.
burn more calories than you consume.
tried and true. easy as that.
there are plenty of calorie counters on the internet ... eat as you "normally" would for a few days to a week and log everything ... be meticulous to document exactly what you're in taking ... every drink, every morsel of food ... figure out exactly what its nutritional value is ... and log it ...
then take that log and figure out what your BMR (basal metabolic rate) is ... can be figured out all "scientifically" but some websites will give you an idea, based on your daily activities .... even then, you could wear a pedometer and get an idea of how much walking is typical for you in a day ...
now that you know about how much you consume in a day, and how much you burn off ... get an idea of exactly how much you want to lose in lbs ... for every 1 lb of fat you want to lose, you need to burn off 3500 calories ... for every 3500 calorie deficit in your diet, you've burned a pound of fat. make adjustments to your daily activites accordingly.
there's a start to burning off lb's of fat ... now if you want to burn them off around the clock, start adding lean, dense muscle ... when you work out do sets of 12 and increase in weight on each set. do sets of 3 for each muscle group. only work one or two muscle groups a day and give them AT LEAST 24 hours recovery time. the time spent in the gym destroys the muscles and the time outside the gym is spent rebuilding and restoring them.
doing cardio is one thing, but building muscle is a totally different story. you can burn off 300 calories on the treadmill in 1/2 an hour and add it back in 5 minutes with a hamburger ... BUT you could spend 1/2 an hour strength training and your new muscles will burn calories around the clock doing things muscles need to do all day, everyday. basically, muscle burns energy (calories) to survive, i.e. build, carry out metabolic activities, etc. PLUS the hamburger that would be added back after cardio, could be used to build muscle after a strength training workout.
now back to your diet ... you realize that alcohol is the most calorically dense substance we consume?? protein and carbs have 4 kcal/ gram, fat 7 kcal/ gram, and 9 kcal/ gram of alcohol. BUT your body cannot do ANYTHING with alcohol. having said that ... keep your fats simple (monounsaturated fats), limit or eliminate your sugar intake, and work out "most" (4+) days / week for at least 45 minutes.
whew ... i did all of that from my head, so you guru's feel free to make any corrections that i missed. did i mention my undergraduate degree is in kinesiology (exercise science) and my minor in health promotion??
