Tire patch question

My bike is grounded. I picked up a screw in the back tire and it only has 2500 miles on it.
Should I patch it or plug it?
Would you trust either of them at 130 or with practicing standups?
Or do I need to quit being so cheap and buy a new tire?

BUY A NEW TIRE!!!...and give the old one to me so I can ride with it. I wouldn't be scared to ride with a patched tire. Especially if I rode like you. just kidding. Hey, now that I'm working in Ann Arbor, what was that road, was it 36 or 63? I want to ride it today. Maybe even again this weekend if your up for it. Alot of good roads down here, well, not good, but a lot better than north of here.

Well thats been a hot topic and it really boils down to how you feel riding on a crippled tire. Myself I bought a new one, Dan been riding on a nail for a year, Jarsh plugged/patched his and never had an issue.

No one has ever had a blow out on a patched tire we know but do you wanna be the first..thats the question you need to answer. Do you feel lucky?!

Re: Tire patch question

If you decide to get rid of the old tire, I'll give it a happy home. That goes for any rear tires that don't have steel showing.

You also have to look at how it went through the tire. If it broke into any of the belts I wouldn't use unless you wanted to learn burnouts or slow stuff. I have ran on plugged tires before and at high rates of speed but it is always in my the back of my mind when hitting triple digits. Like everyone else has said it is up to you.

Re: Tire patch question

I patch plug alot of tires here at work, and I've never seen one fail. However, there is a disclamer that they make us state on the repair order- "do not exceed 55mph for first 24 hours after repair. Do not ride over 85mph for extended periods of time thereafter." Hope this helps.

36 - it's about 10 miles south of 96. The good part runs between 23 & 52.
If I get that tire plugged I'd probably have time to ride this weekend.

Sweet, I've been checking out the maps down here and have a couple of other roads that look pretty twisty(for MI). Hope we can get a ride in this weekend.

Re: Tire patch question

Thanx for the help. I'll think i'll plug it and ride it until next year.
As Jake so happily pointed out, I doubt my 4 inch standups will stress it too much. Then i'll throw it in the street and let ya'll cheap idiots fight over it.
What shops in Flint plug cycle tires?

ive had three tires patched and have ridden em hard in the twistys.the friggin sidewall will blow out b4 the patch does.my buddy patched several over the years on his race bikes and never had a problem.kanrock tires on dort just north of court does it cheap if not for free.some machines cannot mount on sportbike rims and dealerships won't mount a patched tire.stay away from plugs guys, they can possibly throw your balance off.at a 150.00 bucks a pop for most good tires,i swear buy hot patches.
